    Has anyone ever seen Southgate

ever looking enthusiastic, positive and forward looking.

I'm convinced that the above three necessary attributes missing are his biggest downfall.

As well as excited over anything. Just let yourself go man at times and enjoy and look human.

I don’t think any of that is his problem. He is fiercely patriotic, positive in the face of criticism and I have no doubt he genuinely cares. His problem is that he is overly cautious and reactive rather than proactive. It feels a waste of talent playing the way we do but France have won a World Cup with a similarly talented squad playing similarly dour football.

The question is whether winning is more important than the entertainment factor. As Newcastle fans with little experience of winning anything of note, we tend to believe there is more to football than winning. I still believe that to be true despite Southgate’s relative success as England manager.

His is the demeanour of a man who is bought and paid for. He is a puppet, a marionette. I wouldn't be surprised if he even gets to pick the team.

It would very plausible that the FA board pick the squad and have a 'preferred starting 11' to satisfy sponsorship demands.

He's a man who has no freedom to do or say what he wants, he sold his soul for a job far beyond his ability. He never had any sort of personality to speak of. Since he became the England's cadaver/manager, his blank void of personal further leaked away to this irrelevance of a human we've had to suffer listening to through the last few years of interviews.

Southgate’s demeanour pĩsses on anyone’s parade before it even starts. Even though we are in this semi-final, I haven’t had any enthusiasm at all in this or the previous tournament in Qatar. I remember buzzing for every match of the knockout stages in Italia 90 & Euro 96, couldn’t wait for the next game to come around, but this guy just sucks the life out of anything he touches like a Dementor. This squad should’ve had at least one trophy by now - 2020 v Italy when we played virtually every game at Wembley with a proper manager, but with Gìmpy at the helm, a massive wasted opportunity. [was about to post when we got the dodgy penalty but still feel the same about GS]

My beef is he doesn't learn.

He gets so far eith some really talented players then shiits the bed making the same mistakes over and over again.

I've said it the last 2 tournies. Doesn't have the X factor needed to ve a winner.

Watkins coming on and scoring the winner. What the media wet their pants over ClownGate's tactical genius!

England played to the average standard I would expect today for the first time in the tournament. If that deserves a ‘well done’ or not I’ll leave with you.
Lots saying we have to give Boregate credit for the subs. Well, they’re the sane ones he’s made every game so if bringing on fresh legs is enough then I can do that.
Koeman tactically ou did him after England’s bright start and the fresh legs of the subs was enough to make the higher quality of England’s players win the day.
They’ll need more to beat Spain but if the managers could be swapped for the final, England would walk it.

I tend to think that this game was the first on where we have just deserved the result, except two things were relevant.

We were very fortunate to get the penalty as the the ref wasn't even considering a foul, and the second was the offside goal. Only inches out.
