    Dead singers?

Most days I listen to Donna Summer, I think she was an amazing singer.

I find myself increasingly sad though when I watch live performances of great artists, Amy Winehouse is another, in truth there’s now a great many of them.

To hear the magic they could produce and know that this is it, there never will be anymore and we just have recordings to satisfy us.

    Dusty is another one……

There are still some great singers out there (e.g. Beyonce) but so much of todays music is too samey and overproduced. For anyone interested, check out Rick Biato's latest you tube videos such as "The real reason music is getting worse" or "I told you this was going to happen". Some complain that he is a typical whinging Boomer, but he is certainly no technophobe and personally I think that he makes very valid points about the dangers of over using certain technologies (drum machines/auto tune), the use of large and very formulaic writing groups, the decline in the use of modulation (key changes) in songs and, most importantly, the very real dangers to both creativity and the music industry itself posed by AI and sites like Udio.

And yes, it's hard to find singers today to match the likes of Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, Freddie Mercury, Frank Sinatra or Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Dusty Springfield, Whitney Houston, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald etc etc.
