You'll never make a footballer, boy!

Something to lighten the mood a little, idea lifted from watsapp group I'm and including some hilarious and in one case tragic reply:

What was it that stopped you being a professional footballer?

Never wanted to be is fine

Two left feet is fine too

The truth would be more interesting though

Never been a good footballer, got ok at 5 a side when played regularly.

Was decent goalie at school but was overweight so never considered for school teams etc

At the age where you need to start taking sport seriously, other physical desires took precedence. I equally failed to achieve those in the most part.

I found accountancy to be a far more stimulating career option....

The truth? Same reason as with rugby and cricket or writing a best seller…nowhere near good enough.
Same for most people I’d guess, but it’s maybe something you don’t fully recognise until you play against others who are genuinely talented but still some way off the top. That’s when we realise how average most of us really are.

I was pro standard with the ball at my feet, it was the running bit that spoilt things!

Don't believe that for a second, always had you down as a dribbler

Me: many reasons including being too fat and too focussed on drums and cricket. Way better in my my 20s and 30s in the John O’Hare back to goal goal good control lay it off and rest role but also ****-scared of breaking a leg after seeing a nasty one as a kid so never very physical. Dead loss basically although briefly notorious at school when someone of the same name broke through for a while at, I think, Birmingham City, which I milked like mad
