Lewis Richardson, our youngest ever Premier League debutant, has just signed for Ossett United in the Northern Premier League Division One East, Level 8. Yet another one sucked into the Gawthorpe Black Hole, there is no escape.
Injuries simply stalled his progress mon ami. Unfortunately it happens.
sinky, we play them away in our first league game of the season, however, I shall be sailing but will keep an eye out for the result and the team.
Our manager finished at the end of last season because he is involved with Gateshead Academy amongst other things, however, we appointed the assistant managed and the coach from last season and we have some continuity.
Unfortunately, we have lost a couple of players who have moved up the pyramid and our signings have been okay but don't really improve us. Plenty of graft but we really need a creative midfielder and they are not easy to find.
We have also had a setback on Tuesday night in a friendly at Morpeth when our centre forward, Connor Thompson, who we had on loan from Morpeth for the second half of last season and did very well, sustained a dislocated knee and is waiting for a scan to see if he also has ligament damage. He will be hard to replace so we are keeping fingers crossed that he will not be out too long.
I shall miss a lot of games this season because of cruising but I always keep an eye out for results and the reports. I have to admit that the financial side of things is rather worrying though because the club are reactive rather than proactive and that is not good in non=league football unless you have a very rich chairman etc.
How do you think Clitheroe will fare this season?
Sounds a bit of a mixed bag that Sub, good that you have some grafters though, better that than half a dozen fancy dans, and you've got the shortish trip down to Stan to look forward to this season, will you be around for that ?
I don't want to get carried away, Clitheroe have under-achieved so often in the last ten years, and it could happen again, but if they don't make the play-offs this season something will have gone badly wrong. They have a proper manager in Jimmy Bell this time, they've had some right clowns before, and he's brought some decent players in so far, like Sean McConville from Accy Stanley. I saw them beat Stanley U23s this afternoon and Fleetwood U23s last week. This looks to be the strongest Clitheroe team I've seen in the 12 years I've been watching them, but as we both know, lots can go wrong, so I'm saying nowt else.
