    Okay

It’s claimed the Trabzon club will pay €1.6m for the Turkey international just two years after the player arrived at the Hawthorns. Yokuşlu has reportedly been keen on a return to Trabzonspor and it’s likely this is why the English side are allowing him to leave.

That’s a low amount of money.

Can’t imagine Carlos is happy about that! I would rather have sold Asante for 2.5 million personally who is easily replaced!

Someone like Okay is hard to replace and you’d have a hard job investing 1.5 million to get the same kind of player.

Agreed. Apparently, he is back in training with the rest of the squad but then nothing is really ever sorted until the last minute of the transfer window is it? Like yourself, I can see the financial dilemma regarding whether to cash in on some of our players if they are wanted by others (whether Okay or BTA) but am quite concerned about our ability to adequately replace them.

He's probably close to being our top earner, so its not just the fee we're receiving to be taken into account - its his wages too.

I like him as a player, but I think this is a good deal for the club.

As I've said over and over, its all about the incomings. We have to reinvest this £1.5m or whatever it is into a player who is younger and better than Okay, with resale value. This is how we progress as a club.

His basic contract was £29k a week I believe.

That’s over £1.5m per annum before bonuses.

Even if we only get £1.5m for him it creates a £3m space in our FFP.

It also means last his fee pays what we paid him in wages last year.

This financial planning is affecting everyone apart from Man City who appear to have their own set of rules.

Even mega rich Newcastle are having to let a couple go to stay with FFP.

If I was Patel I’d be doing exactly this, we can’t afford players on £20k to £33k anymore, the few that are like Wallace and Swift will be gone as soon as their contracts end unless anyone wants them.

The fact we got them on a “free” also means that any hint of interest with a fee involved makes them a no brainer to sell.

This is the reality in which we now live for the foreseeable future, I’m quite excited by this tbh.

We need to become a club that attracts youngsters because they know they stand a chance of playing and that they won’t be held back if someone offers a decent fee for them.

The days of us being a last stop off or close to the end players on big wages needs to end.

    And it is.

Good luck to him, he has done well for us . If reports are right he's got a 3 contract .
The championship is a hard slog ,at times he luck as if he was blowing at around 65 minutes.
Prior comming to us he had a lot injuries . Will miss him , but it's a good deal for both of us .

Yep. We do agree sometimes Mick

Our recruitment team need to step up now and find some stars in League One and Two. There is talent in those leagues who need a platform at a bigger club with an excellent manager to thrive.

We need to play the 'moneyball' system - buy a player and sell them for 10x what we paid. Asante is a good example of this. Brentford are a good example of a club who do this, particularly when they were in the championship.

Our recruitment has to be spot on going forwards. How we do in the next couple of years literally depends on who they identify.

    😏🫣🤣

    I totally agree.

The problem though…..I don’t trust our recruitment team.

I may be wrong but are we not relying on the same team that brought in most of the dross over the past few years?

I think Luke Dowling had a lot to answer for. Karlan Grant and Diangana were big money signings who haven't worked out. Less said about Zohore the better.

But since he left, yes we've spent big money on wages for Swift, Wallace and Okay but they were all free's. And had we been promoted you could argue they were worth it. We will likely make most of our money back on Okay so that has been a successful signing. And there is some interest in Swift in particular. And lets not forget Asante. Dike is really the only player we've spent money on, and injuries have decimated him - and he could still come good.

They get the benefit of the doubt for me, for the time being. This window is absolutely huge though, they have to deliver or we won't see premier league football for a long time.
