As you know the Titans were promoted from National 2 North last season and are now in National 1. This does not simply mean a jump to a higher league. National 1 (the third level of Rugby Union) is a NATIONAL league, whereas all leagues below are regionalised.
There is a strong bias towards Southern teams, specifically London & surrounding areas, i.e more enticing areas for employment etc, being as National 1 is not fully professional.
Consequently they are able to call upon a much wider player base and support from the bigger clubs, the majority of whom are also in the south.
Anyway yesterday Roth played their first game at Clifton Lane at the higher level and played Roehampton based Rosslyn Park who finished 3rd in National 1 last season.
The Titans won by 31-21 and absolutely destroyed them up front. By any degree, this was an exceptional win. The pace of the game is much quicker at this level and if they are off their game they would get punished by better players. The fact that they were on their game just shows the ability of this team. Under the stewardship of ex Jersey coach, Harvey Biljon (ex Championship winning coach) things will only get better.
So if whenever you are at a loose end or the Millers either aren’t playing or out of town, I would suggest a visit to Clifton Lane & cheer a fellow Rotherham team on.
The atmosphere & Craic is fantastic & the team put their bodies on the line every single week and I know they would appreciate the extra support.
Thank you.
