Sign a proper striker in the January transfer window ?
We have needed one for a few seasons.
Sargent from Norwich perhaps?
Using past performance.as.a guide, unlikely
Doubt it but think Joseph will step up and fill that role - he has scored goals at every level he has played at
Won’t sign one, seargent from Norwich highly unlikely, big player in a small club and loves it there, would have come already if he was going to. We’ll soldier on as we always do and all bleat at the end of the season how if only we’d signed a striker in January we’d have got promotion, lots like Groundhog Day every season.
No. Already have Joseph, Piroe, Bamford and Gelhardt.
How long are we going to keep Gelhardt without utilising him? His season is shaping the same as last year. Even Bamford gets on before him! They must see something to hold on to him...but only question marks for the rest of us. 😮
The lack of game time for him and Crew this season and Cresswell and various others last suggests any properly informed agent would put Leeds down the pecking order for younger players.
Over the course of the last decade xG [or expected goals] has become a large part for clubs far and wide......... so clubs have access to vast amounts of data with regards to teams and players as they endeavour to improve in style of play or by recruitment.
With Joffy...... Leeds will have shelled out nearly £3,900,000 into his salary since August 2022 if he stays till contract end 2027...... so a big lump to find for a club wage wise.
Mowbray at Sunderland took a dabble on him unfortunately expecting Gelhardt to lead the line....... at 5’9” Gelhardt did not necessarily provide the same kind of presence in that team as Mowbray teams prior had used a taller lone striker set up....... resulting in 3 goals in 18 games after a haul of 2 goals in 46 appearances for us.
Always thought Gelhardts game was more of a terrier in terms of winning or receiving the ball...... so ideally for the No.10 position and ideal for being a fulcrum into moving the ball forward....... .... however when he played for us he always looked slightly lost at times particulary when focusing on home fixtures and the tendency to mix things up tactically a little bit more away from home..... so in game time negative points showed to his game.
Wyscout, Statsbomb and Opta are just some of the renowned tools that clubs, Coaches and even players use to gain a greater understanding of the game........... so long gone is the simplicity of the eye test watching the match to assess as to whether a team or individual played well and Geldhardts stats are average when they pan out at Leeds in the youth and senior set up for all to see as indeed at Sunderland.......... his shots, passing, possession, crosses, progressive runs and attacking duels bread and butter stuff tells a story under several Coaches now while hes been trying to reach his peak performance level consistently... more to come from him with our other options you merit ahead ?
MOT
In the first couple of seasons for us Joffy looked like he had the exuberance of youth and inner confidence.
Seems that had been lost and looks in part due to the fact he knows he won’t get picked and then play.
He was always a 10 and not a 9 but looks like another case of unfulfilled potential.
He should maybe take a leaf out of Luke Ayling’s book and go somewhere he will play as a starter and then progress from there.
