Thread: Doncaster, Crewe

    Doncaster, Crewe

So 26 points before the clocks go back is a very decent start all things considered as we head into the FA Cup break from the league.

Looking ahead our next two league games are both away, at Doncaster (4th) and Crewe (5th), a real test to see how strong we really are and a good indicator to see if we can last the distance this time around.

My question is; would you take winning one and losing one of these games to come out of two tough games with 3 points, or would you prefer to draw both to preserve our mini unbeaten run, albeit for a point less on the board.

Factor in they’re both in and around us in the table and two draws would stop 4 points behind handed out to promotion rivals.

It may be too early to start looking at the table this way but we’re nearly a third of the way through and it’s definitely starting to take shape.

I'd take a point from either.

If we have any aspiration of being promoted, then we have to beat these type of teams..

A point from both would do me fine.

This sort of question always reveals the flaw in the 3 points system. Doesn't feel right going into two tough fixtures that you can end up better off losing one rather than remaining unbeaten in both.

If they'd introduced the back pass rule in 1981 instead, I don't think the 3 points rule would have ever been floated as a good idea.

At this stage of the season you have to take 3 points over 2. The deeper you go into the campaign the more sense 2 over 3 can make in denying rivals the extra points.

I’d expand this thread – our next three away games are against Doncaster (4th), Crewe (5th), and Walsall (2nd), with NEWPORT (H) in between the latter two.

If by 10.00 pm on Tuesday, 3rd December, after those three testing away games, we are still unbeaten on our travels, I’ll be more than happy. Although I’m ever the optimist, I can’t see us winning more than one (if that), and 3 or 4 points (plus victory against Newport) would see us still in the mix.

I think we are a different proposition away from home. None of those 3 teams will sit back with everyone behind the ball which can be our downfall, as long as we don’t gift them goals from a high press we’ll be fine.

A very good question re; 2 points or 3 points ?
I'm sure most fans would be wishing for 6 points/ 4 or 3 points.
2 points from two away games ,however ,would be acceptable.

Two points ,of course, means parity between the three clubs.
A win and a defeat for Notts would mean an advantage for Notts over one team and a loss would be beneficial to either Donny or Crewe.
A win over the latter would be very satisfying for Notts fans after being robbed there last season.

Let's think positively and wish for 4 or 6 points !

I think 6 points from these 4 games would sort of be OK.
That's 2 wins and 2 losses. Or 1 win and 3 draws. I would probably prefer the latter.
Those 3 away games are all 6 pointers.
Any more and I will be absolutely delighted.

We play Walsall twice in less than a month. So , if they are going to be in the mix, that's 1 club out the way for the rest of the season.

Could be a decent gate New years day
