For his reign to come to an end on the back of the dodgiest of all VAR penalty decisions must rankle.
I expect Van Nistelrooy to have an instant positive impact on the club. It couldn't get any worse!

Sort of saw this coming what with it being on the BBC footy pages everyday for the last month or so.
Manchester United have sacked manager Erik ten Hag following the club's poor start to the season.
Ten Hag's final game was Sunday's 2-1 defeat at West Ham that left the club 14th in the Premier League with just three wins from their opening nine matches.
United are also 21st of 36 teams in the Europa League table, having drawn their three opening fixtures.
Ruud van Nistelrooy, who joined the club as Ten Hag's assistant last summer, has been named as interim manager.
The club said Van Nistelrooy would be in charge "while a permanent head coach is recruited".
Club sources have stressed this was a difficult decision but a unanimous one and Ten Hag was informed of the decision by the club's board on Monday morning.
"Thanks for everything, boss," United captain Bruno Fernandes wrote on Instagram.
"I appreciate the trust and the moments we share together, I wish you all the best in the future."
In two seasons he ain't done bad in the silverware department. Won the Carabo Cup, lost in the FA Cup final to Man City then the year after beat Man City to win the FA Cup.

Pressure been on Erik Ten Hag all season, nearly every day a report of him getting the sack, who will replace him etc.
Which didn't help him with his mental health, I think the media hounded him, with publishing everyday he was getting the sack.
O/K he signed players who have not come good, so he takes the dismissal, but his signings & players already in the club have let him down.
Hopefully he goes to another club & has success.
Gareth Southgate come on down.
The club is in chaos.
Players on the payroll on big contracts earning 300,000 a week.
There isn't a manager out there who can make this team challengers again.
They also have limited funds available.
Can't see em challenging again in the next decade
I stumbled across some expenditure stats on the net a few days ago that listed what the traditional prem teams had cumulatively spent over the last ten year period.
Assuming it was accurate, MUFC were 8th on the list.
Might explain why they don’t win anything meaningful any more.
Pre Abramovic and Etihad oil money etc they were probably the richest club
It is suggested that the job is a poisoned chalice. It is from taking Man U to the heights of Europe and the Premier League. They are a decade away from that but so many would love that job because it's another 20 mill in the bank what ever happens. The Premier League merry-go-round is a wonderful ride to get on to.There are no losers, just some who lift trophies and some who don't.
Ten Hag has spent £407 million in 2 years ! What could Steve Evans have done with that sort of money ? !!
