Which loan players would you like to sign permanently

Yates? Juries out for me. Does an awful lot of good, hard work BUT he's our central striker and is hardly ever central in the oppo's box. Little wonder he has but one goal to his name. I think he'd be more use playing off a #9 like Collo or Daj.

Ozoh. Hope he's quickly into his stride when he returns. We miss him badly. Love to have him as one of our own but we don't have the cash.

Phillips. Not seen a lot yet but what he have seen... computer says no BUT that's on a very small poll. Hopefully he gets some game time and comes good but I won't hold my breath.

Harness is another with the jury out. Some good games, some less so, insufficient to excite me sufficiently to want him to stay.

Chirewa. Looked handy first sub appearance, a liability on his second and now injured. Another no based on what we've seen so far

Agree about Yates…not sure ‘playing off Collo’ would make much difference. Did very well for us last season but sadly he’s a L1 striker who’s past his ‘sell by’, imo.

    Ozoh…again completely agree.

Phillips. Bit harsh on your part I think. He’s a CD and, as yet, has barely had a chance to play to his strengths. Unfortunately it’ll probably take either injury or suspension before we see what he can do. I thought he was a genuinely exciting and ambitious signing and a much needed leader, but we’ve yet to see him at his best.

Harness. Thought he did well when he came on at Oxford but he was totally anonymous at Stoke.

Chirewa. Haven’t seen him…the boo boys seemed quick to get on his back.

P.S. Is the number of seemingly injury prone players we’ve signed…eg, Chirewa, Ozoh, Ward, Wilson, Blackett Taylor, Nyambe, Waghorn, Washington, Bradley a concern or just bad luck?

    1. My point. Not seen enough, as I said BUT what we have seen hasn't been encouraging although it is only a small poll

    2. It's a concern, certainly, however, I think the initial injuries have been more bad luck than anything. More worrying is the number of subsequent injuries. The biggest one at the moment are quad injuries received in training following a different injury. Currently Ozoh and Chirewa and we had a 3rd one, maybe Tommo. My take is it's a bit of both.

To extend this a little…below is a list of Derby’s signings since PW took over. It may be that I’ve overlooked one or two and in any case it only tells half the story as I haven’t included outgoings.
I’ve attempted to assess players from 1-5 in terms of the value they’ve brought to the club and added an * where injury or personal circumstance has had a seriously adverse impact upon a players performance.
    Springett 1*
    White 2
    Phillips 3
    Zetterstrom 4
    Vickers 3*
    Nelson 5
    Bradley 2*
    Elder 3*
    Nyambe 4*
    Wilson 3*
    Ozoh 3*
    Goudmijn 3*(?)
    Osborn 4*
    Adams 5
    Ward 2*
    Chirewa 1*
    Harness 3
    Blackett-Taylor 2*
    Yates 3
    Jackson 3
    Washington 1*
    Embleton 0*

It’s admittedly very crude and people may well disagree with the ‘scores’, which is just personal opinion, that equals a score of 60 out of a possible 110 (54.5%) and a horrible amount of injuries. Thoughts?

Thats a useful list rA, although I did think it was out of 10 originally. I'd currently give Vickers and Zetterstrom 3.5 each and have Z on notice that he's gotta be more careful (generally), I'd give my 23/24 whipping boy Bradley a potential 3 after he came good a bit late last season, although he does turn like a Toleman TG181 (GP MAY get that, otherwise plz ignore) and Champ strikers may find him out, and Yates and Jackson combined don't currently deserve 6 although I'm not sure where the problem lies - Yates certainly appears to see a problem

The Amster jury votes are in and they seem to be in a swing state, possibly due to the weekend's planned celebrations having started last night. Today being our eldest's 32nd birthday AND our 37th wedding anniversary....

    Springett 1*
    White 2
    Phillips 2
    Zetterstrom 4
    Vickers 3*
    Nelson 5
    Bradley 2*
    Elder 3*
    Nyambe 4*
    Wilson 3*
    Ozoh 4*
    Goudmijn 4*(?)
    Osborn 3*
    Adams 5
    Ward 2*
    Chirewa 1*
    Harness 3
    Blackett-Taylor 2*
    Yates 2
    Jackson 2
    Washington 1*
    Embleton 0*

Total of 58 out of 110 (52.7%). I see potential for Jackson, Yates, CBT, Harness, Chirewa, Elder and Phillips to improve. Potential doesn't always come to fruition, however.

I did, possibly not the only one. Made 20 appearances of one sort or another and got off to a decent start…a 1 and yet another * for me.

I like Ozoh, think he is the difference we need right now. However, I don't really care about signing loan players. In our current position, we need to be bringing in loanees who would be out of our budget to sign on a permanent basis - in other words, players too good for us. It's not like we're bringing in loanees on the premise of, "we'll offer a perm deal if promoted".
Signing "proven Championship players", ala Shaun Barker-esk to coin echos of our similar position under Nigel Clough some years ago, needs to be where our limited budget is focussed. Loanees just need to do a job whilst we build a resilient squad.
