O/T:- Apostrophes becoming question marks.

I'm sure we've all seen it a lot on here, but does anyone know why apostrophes often appear as question marks? It's a fairly recent thing that is becoming very annoying. It's not just this board, it happens all over the MAD network. When I post on Chrome on my old desktop it's not a problem,but.......

It could be that your default font is set to Verdana or your font is corrupted. Can you restore your Standard Fonts?

Try turning of smart quotes
open text edit then edit go down to substitutions click on that and untick smart quotes.
It used to be a problem years ago see if that solves your problem

Probably a conflict between the board and google fonts. This has occured since an update was done on this board. I would hazard a half educated guess that it needs to be resolved by the site owner. So we should get a remedy in the next 12 months!

I'd rather have the odd ? & ' and the site being stable than how it was in the early summer when it was down quite regularly.

A web search for
forum posts apostrophe question mark
brings up lots of hits

This board for me is set to
charset=ISO-8859-1
Press Ctrl+U when you are on a forum page, it says towards the top.

I've never really got on top of all this encoding - it became a mess when keys were no longer hard-coded.

I don't seem to have a problem. How many of you are on Apple/iPads?

PS I'm also Win10, not yet Win11
