    Montrose game

Well made heavy weather of that match. Willis took his goal very well and the Montrose keeper made at least three wonderful saves in the first half so we certainly made him work. Second half was pretty tedious, missing yet another penalty and frustratingly playing too much possession football when they were down to ten then nine men when we should have been finishing them off. Can someone explain to me why we are faffing around at by kicks passing it around only for a player to eventually hoof it up the park losing possession. What are we trying to achieve with these tactics?
Still we finished with a win and three points breaking or scoreless run of late but the football has to be more positive or the crowds will decrease even more.

I couldn’t agree more Spike. My son used to play chess all over Scotland as a kid, and I’ve seen much more exciting games!
That was worse than boring and if we can’t anialate a team with 9 players, what the bloody hell are we doing playing tippy tappy at by kicks with 11?
Good God I’ve asked 100 times why the manager hasn’t changed the tactics and here we are in November and he’s still doing it.
It’s not rocket science…….stop it now, play open football and get the fans back………please, please, please.

Weren't Queens goal kicks in the first half against Annan last weekend to do with the wind in the first half, so why resort to the same tactics today against Montrose?

Murphy should have a better idea on how to play against 10 men, let alone 9.

Most importantly we stopped the rot after losing 3 games. A clean sheet & another home win. Alloa will as always be another tough fixture. So much room for improvement including game management.

We won with a clean sheet. Our keeper had one save to make. There keeper was arguably man of the match. We missed a penalty and we are 3 points from the top of the league and it’s into the 2nd quarter of the season. We are a good side that will be in the mix come the end of the season. And all this without a number of forwards out injured and key players missing for periods. Considering where we were under the previous manager we still question the abilities of this manager. Maybe, just maybe, his tactics have got us where we are. Yes some might not agree with the way we play, but you can’t argue with the improvement in a short space of time. But I guess the arrogance of some will expect us to have won every game by 6 goals and be in the league cup semi finals

That's a fair post Fatfan. Football fans always expect, unreasonably, that their team should win regardless.
One caveat though, - due to sloppiness, careless back passes or dare I say it, bloody mindedness to follow a one dimensional set of play, Queens could easily have ended up drawing against 9 man Montrose yesterday. We got away with it by the skin of our teeth and I would politely ask our manager to perhaps change the tactics somewhat, particularly when we have two, yes 2 extra players!

Jardi the point I’m making is they didn’t draw against 9 men. Incase everyone forgot they won against a team that will be up there with qos at the end of the season. Was it a free flowing display. Far from it. But it was 3 points and to say we were lucky then I’d point out who Montrose mom was! Particularly in the first half. It was obvious that the managers tactics were to sit back and keep it tight and hit Montrose on the break. And it worked. Games are not won in who has the most possession. If some aren’t happy with the way the manager has the team playing well it’s simple. Don’t turn up!! But to criticise the man’s tactics instead of maybe looking at the standard of the opposition is a slap in the face for a man that has made great strides compared to last season

Morning Fatfan, we will probably never fully agree on footballing matters. Of course our manager is many moons away from our incumbent last season and he has made huge improvements. However, we weren't up against Celtic or Aberdeen on Saturday, we were playing lowly Montrose with just nine men on the park for the last quarter of an hour or so (including injury time) - and in anyone's book, we made a complete pig's ear of that period.
