    Mick Butler Hat trick 1973

Away at Hartlepool in a 4-1 win , this is bloody rare and I found it by complete accident on YouTube .

At the back end of this five minute video .

It brought some memories back for me Animal, I was there but the most striking thing was how good Butler was in the air , he was at his level a true all round striker , my memory also reminded me of what a hostile place Hartlepool was , it got very tasty after the match and both times I had the pleasure of going there ended in open warfare after the match lol !!

Only went up there the once in 1978 , 1-1 draw with Derek Bell equalising for us in the second half , as you say it was hostile to say the least .

Micky Butler and Bobby Doyle were probably the only two decent players we had in those days , Ali Millar too although he was very inconsistent .

Micky suffered in those days from rough treatment by thug fourth division defenders who more or less did what they wanted and he had very little protection from referees .

I seem to remember he broke his leg three times , twice in one season and still scored 20 goals .

A natural goalscorer with plenty of pace and as you say very good in the air for such a slight player .

I think big Eric was playing at the time when Butler bagged his hatrick but you mention Bobby Doyle who was at the time one of my favourite players , he was really talented , but there were so many players over the years who I have really enjoyed watching and Micky Butler was fantastic especially in the way he was plucked from local soccer at an age where opportunity rarely knocks, I wish we could unearth another one right now !!

Hey Animal, you've got a nice comment from Big Lil about this video clip, on the other board. 😊
And I would 'embed' these video links on here like I used to do, but apparently nobody can do that on Footymad now!. 👎

Interesting video was that. I like my nostalgia and from the YouTube recommendations to that video that Animal put up, I also enjoyed some Yorkshire TV 'Goals on Sunday' action from 1990 with John Helm doing the commentary. This was an era when I first became serious about this wonderful game of ours.

A tell thi summat, these fairies laikin in today's game wunt have lasted 2 minutes back then.

Pass, I also used to like John Helm as the regular Ytv (Calender) footy commentator.
He also did Scrum down, the Rugby league show which was shown on Sunday nights.
But I just can't listen to his pro Sheff Wensdy & Leeds voice anymore, it annoys me when I hear him. 😕 👎
