    David Coote - Referee

This story has broken today about PL ref David Coote. A video has been released of him having a pop at Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp in particular.

    Disclaimer: Contains some bad language.

Circled to the BBC Sport article about it and turns out, he’s a Notts fan. Great stuff.

Privately, I expect most if not all referees have clubs and managers they strongly dislike. To say this is not a good look for Coote though would be a gross understatement. I heard about it before I saw the video and assumed he'd been caught talking to somebody down the other end of a corridor thinking he wasn't in ear shot of a recording device, but there he is saying this stuff directly down the lens of the camera. Incredible.

At the very least, I can't see how he can possibly be allowed to officiate a game involving Liverpool again or one that effects them in any way, which you could argue would include all fixtures involving Man City, Arsenal or anybody else near the top of the table.

You think you've seen it all in football but this is quite something.

    Seconded.
In good company, another arrogant official who thinks he's better than he actually performs !

I wonder if BFP thinks this guy is worthy of being a Notts fan ?

I’d love you to elaborate on what makes him and other officials ‘arrogant’?

He was really stupid (and naive) to say what he did on camera, but I can't get worked up about the content of what he said. This may well be the end of his premiership career, probably rightly so, but the reality is that players and managers give endless vile dog's abuse to officials, so he may have good reason to hold that opinion of Klopp. He shouldn't have said it where it might come back to haunt him.

He’s obviously put himself in a terrible, terrible position by letting himself being filmed. The use of ‘German C…’ is also clearly totally unacceptable.

I don’t have much issue with ‘Liverpool were s…’ but the other bits about Klopp aren’t great.

I reckon that’ll be the end of his PL career. It remains to be seen if his whole refereeing career will be done.

On a wider note, there is an awful lot that needs to be done in relation to referees/clubs/players/managers/statements. Some of the stuff over even the last year has been terrible for the image of football and it will be so difficult to rectify.
