    The New Iron Curtain Defence

I have mentioned the 1946/47 promotion winning team elsewhere. Conceding just 29 goals in 42 games their resolute defenders earned the nickname (the iron curtain defence). I am not, contrary to rumour, old enough to have seen that team in action myself though my father and grandfather will have watched them. Our current crop have shipped just 6 goals so far in 17 league games and should they maintain that miserly rate of concession will earn their own place in Clarets history and perhaps a nickname of their own.

1947 was the year Burnley got to Wembley, so my dad used to tell me.
We played Boro away in a replay and he went with my uncle unfortunately the bus broke down in the snow over blubberhouses but they managed to get it going, and got there for HT, to witness a clarets win.

He would have been 20 years old then and Burnley daft, his last game was the Lincoln home defeat in the FA Cup

I cannot imagine we will hold on to Esteve for a whole lot longer. He is the real deal.

Though I suppose that could have racial implications these days.
