?BARNSLEY head coach Darrell Clarke has pledged to be ?ruthless? in his quest to shake up the Reds? squad after lambasting his side?s performance in the final half hour or so against Birmingham City?
    Quote from the Yorkshire Post?.

He must be very very confident that the board are going to splash the cash, as he is on about getting rid of the poor performers in the YP. Maybe we aren't as short of money as we all think??.. lol

I can?t understand why some people keep saying that we are short of money.
Where have they seen or read this ???

I honestly believe Watters and Cosgrove are blocking the progress of the club.
    They rarely appeared last season.
But the club seems obliged to play one or both of them.

If we had replacements for those two - proper strikers that can anticipate a cross or where the ball is going to drop in the box then I think we would be top 2 by now.

We have players that are good at creating chances.

It is obvious we are skint, you only have to look at the balance sheet ,plus we could not sign DKD until the season had begun after we had received some brass for Styles, who incidentally we gave away given that he is a regular starter in a side currently pushing hard for the championship play offs, but I digress , Clarke has to be ruthless and get some of the deadwood off the payroll but that does not mean for one minute we will be splashing cash we have not got , hopefully Watters will be back fit as I see him being our main striker who up to getting injured has looked the player we hoped he would be, but he needs support and like last season I see the striker dept being strengthened as in the past by hopefully a decent loan signing or two , it is rare cash gets splashed in january especially in the lower leagues, we will see .

Well that would be the captain and Phillips out of the team then if we are going on recent form and both are supposed to be our two biggest saleable assets .

Almost everybody else is playing to their capabilities which isn't a particularly high bar but that's the reality .

However if the HC is on a mission to become the new Keith Hill at Oakwell he might want to look up what happened to him once the defeats started mounting up .

It?s a crazy statement to me, it implies a big clear out?. After a while the threats of ?I won?t stand for it? will become ?I don?t have a choice?.
Wealthy club managers/coaches can make these statements if there is a high possibility that it will happen as the club will move underperforming first teamers out, and recruit better, but yet with the finances here it won?t be possible?.

This time next year Nudge will be putting ?we haven?t replaced Cosgrove and Watters? in every post?..

Looks like I?m gunna have to spell it out when I say we haven?t replaced Cole and McAtee.
It?s obviously not those players per se - it?s the attributes they bring to the table.
We haven?t any one at the club capable of anticipating where a cross is going to land - or where a loose ball will drop in the box.
Watters and Cosgrove have definitely not got those attributes.

A new HC might be able to get a tune out of Cosgrove because he?s a big unit that should be able to win headers and hold the ball up for other players around him - but as yet I?ve not seen any sign of it.

    As for Phillips.
He was a waste of space last season - and he?s the same this season.
    His work rate is abysmal.
I?ve watched his sending off - what was happening with his attitude towards the bench when that happened.
Was he shouting at DC or one of the other coaches ???

You were at the fans meeting weren?t you? Pretty sure you asked the monologue question anyway. Flatman made it quite clear how much money it costs us each season.

I imagine we will see quite a few depart with smaller numbers coming in, but hopefully with more quality.

Slonina and Craig can be sent back for me. Use those loans slots for better and for positions we need.

I think Cotter and Lofthouse will leave. Hopefully we will be able to sign 1 right wing back and 1 left wing back, for balance and completion for Gent.

Clearly goalscorer should be the main target. We?ve got the running in behind in Watters (when fit it seems), we?ve got the big lump in Cosgrove, we?ve got the tricky Jalo and we?ve got the all rounded Humphrys who can do all of the previous pretty much (who also needs a contract extension soon I would say). We need someone in the box to finish the chances. Clearly though goalscorers cost the big bucks so I imagine it will be either a young premier league striker or someone who is getting goals this season in a league that is a lower standard than ours. Risky times.
