    Odoffin

So the situation with Odoffin is we will offer him a new contract after the transfer window closes, he is being non-comital in whether he sees himself here. No wonder when the original statement on his and Rathbones contract was talks would start when the players returned for pre-season now we know NO contract has been offered and we won’t do so until we see how much of the budget has gone!!

Now at first pass this seems financially sensible and prudent, however what message does it send to a player who Evan’s has said he wants him and rates him. Don’t worry mate we will offer you a new contract with what we have left after all my new players have got theirs first. For a club that says it understands that they managed contracts badly in the past, this doesn’t seem that smart.

If the contract isn’t accepted by Odoffin then we either lose a player on a cut down fee in January or he leaves for FREE next summer, how is that learning from the past. In the article on this Evan’s cleverly distances himself from the decision, by say PD and RS will speak to Odoffins man after the window closes. This has f*** up written all over it.

As pointed out elsewhere, we have no real right full back cover (except a bloke we will offer financial scraps to, and a bloke that could still leave if an offer comes in), we have no replacement for Rathbone and at least two other positions Evan’s hopes to strengthen. This is one to watch

Derbs, hope you don't mind but I've split your post in to readable paragraphs. It came out as a block posting and this is sometimes hard to follow if very lengthy. Good post by the way, similar to one I called out the other day.

No need for the apologies pal, just keep your posts coming. As for posting from a phone, it's frustrating when you've compiled something lengthy only for it to fail on the last paragraph.......grrr that really pisses me off

Agree totally Derby we have learnt nothing from the Rathbone episode thing with Odoffin is he’s basically 4 players in one and tying him down should be a priority
We need to replace Rathbone and this no 10 SE keeps banging on about we don’t need should be searching for right back cover then we’re sorted IF Haks stays

Uttis, like you say, from midfield Odoffin is always pushing forward so the number 10 slot could be filled by him anyway.

Will Evans have the bottle to try him in that position to push on as a number 10?

Back to the stalled contract offer to Haks, it's very questionable how the club are dealing with it. No one will be surprised if he walks.

He's an exceptional player we can ill afford to lose. Give him that contract now and settle the player with an angle to be that Midfielder/number 10.

I don't think Odoffin is a number 10 player he's better running with the ball from deep and also arriving from a deep position to score. I always think a number 10 needs to be a bit agile and quick on the turn and thread through the through balls.

Good player but not a number 10. Agree we should be looking to extend his contract.

I understand we might have shown an interest in Keillor Dunn from Mansfield following Barnsley’s interest but Clough wants more than we are prepared to pay. He’s a good player though and can play in the 10 role or further forward.

Appointment looked good at the time but signing players round 30 age what do you expect? Coaching they're brought in I question. Look at Osong 1st friendly against Sheff U he looked the business but since then what's happened? Odoffin if he thinks the same he won't stop, I don't blame him. Not having cover at right back that's not getting the squad needed for the start of the season.

The number10 role linking the midfield to a lone forward is a specialist position to play, and not many players can play that role. I remember David Ball playing that position for us a few years ago and playing it well, but Odoffin's best position is as an up and down the pitch midfielder who will chip in with a few goals. After Rathbone's departure I would be distraught if we lost Odoffin, he has come on in leaps and bounds in the last 2 seasons, after Matt Taylor gave him more game time, and to lose another big player would send out all the wrong messages to the supporters.
