It's a money making industry now. Commercial pressures are present today that did not exist when Michael Fish made his error.

They give warnings now for wind, rain, cold, heat, flooding you name it. There's yellow warnings which essentially mean it aint happening, amber warnings which mean it could happen but won't be anything unusual and there's red warnings which mean it'll be a bit bad out there but nothing we can't cope with.

Remember when they used to say 'wrap up' or 'take an umbrella' and the like? Now they say 'stay at home' and 'danger to life' FFS there's more danger to life just getting up in the morning and going to work.

We have one of the if not the most agreeable climates for any country on our latitude ( think it's latitude ) line, don't get extreme cold much, don't get extreme heat unless you measure it on the tarmac of Heathrow airport.

People are now getting the jist of going away when it's cauld here, not when it's 15 to 18 degrees.

The Republic of Ireland weather service started this nonsense of naming storms followed by the Met Office and now the Danish weather service have got in on the act.
A storm crossed the far north of Scotland on Hogmanay culminating in the organisers of the Edinburgh Hogmanay festival panicking and cancelling it on 30th December 2024. The winds were not nearly as bad as forecast by the Met Office.
This storm was never named by the Republic of Ireland Weather service and the Met Office in London because it only affected the far north of Scotland.
The Met Office put up yellow weather warnings covering large areas of the U.K. some of which never receive the bad weather but it suits the Met Office to adopt a ‘one size fits all’ warning.
Around 2012 I complained to my MP Alan Reid about the poor weather forecasting in Argyll and Bute by the Met Office and his reply was that I was being a bit hard on the Met Office.
Since 2012 the weather forecasting by the Met Office throughout the U.K. has got worse despite all their fancy computers.

I enclose the Big Salty weather pressure charts for the U.K. which give the weather pressure charts for the next 14 days. https://bigsalty.com/en/charts/wind_...st/uk-ireland/
Looking at the enclosed charts it will be windy on Friday 24th January 2025 but the charts also show that the blades of the wind turbines throughout large parts of the U.K. will not be turning much on some other days during this period.
The ‘green’ mob will not be happy about this.

Big Salty managed to get their advanced weather forecast wrong as stormy weather is now forecast to hit Scotland and the north of England with a yellow wind weather warning already in place from the middle of Scotland and the north of England westwards from 00.00 on Friday 24th January 2025 until 12.00 on Saturday 25th January 2025.
