Our first half v 2nd half stats

We all know that 2nd half performances have been our strong point this season but when you dive in to the stats its even more stark the contrast between the 2 halfs.

We have scored 7 first half goals, 24 second half.

Of the 6 games we scored in the first half we have only won 1 of them and that was the Hibs game at Easter Road where we won with 2 injury time goals. So it was still a game we had finish well to take the points.

    Games we scored in FH

    W1 D3 L2

remarkably we have a better points ratio in games we dont score in the first half.

    W9 D4 L4

Therefore the stats tell us bizzarily we are better off not scoring in the first half. Keeping it tight then bursting in to life, especially late in the game seems to work for us. This may partly be down to design but it begs the question why cant we put in good performances early on in games? The ideal surely would be to put in strong performances across the whole match but would this change the psychology of the game and diminsh the impact of our strong finishes? if we remember back to the the first 2 games of the season Dundee and Ross County we took the lead in both and failed to secure a win which caused a bit of anxiety particularly in the support. The rest of the season has been largely the other way round. Its almost as if JG decided we needed a different game management.

At the moment its good enjoying the ride knowing we can always come back in games and it must also be in the minds of the oppostion. I cant remember though a time when there was such a contrast in a United 1st half team and a 2nd half one.

Good research, some amazing stats in there.
It'll be weird when we finally go 2-0 up at HT the players won't know what to do 🙈

On the plus side our points ratio won't matter a f*ck tonight so can we please score as many as possible as early as possible to save on the heart attacks?

    Ps.
I will take absolutely any kind of win in reality, off both posts and the bar before bouncing in off the goalkeepers arse if necessary 😋

Thing is, don't see this as an issue as it's the reason we are 3rd, it's working for us overall

Last night can happen, you can lose a rare poor goal early, that was a terrible goal to give away

We still had more than enough chances to get atleast a draw

I'm sorry but not trying to score in the first half is definitely an issue, one that other teams won't be slow to realise either. That first half on Monday was f*cking diabolical. 90 minute performances please!

Who said actively not trying to score, that's a ridiculous notion

Actively trying to get a foothold in games in a league that is cut throat and tight with no much between the sides is smart

And is working for us the majority of the time

It's the way to go as a club host coming up

I hope we don't just rip it up as an over reaction to a Derby defeat that we window didn't score in

Most neutrals I seen commented that they couldn't believe we hadn't scored atleast one

It's not coincidence that our first half performances haven't been good enough though is it? We can't constantly rely upon last minute goals, as we saw with Raith last season, that won't hold out forever. We need to play like we mean to win for the whole 90 and need to be set up to do so. No 1st half goals in almost 3 months speaks for itself.

Three months and not a mention of this. Shows you what a derby loss can spark.
