Thread: Prince William

    Prince William

Prince William says the rules which stop football matches being shown on television if they kick off at 15:00 on a Saturday are "irritating".
The Aston Villa fan - who is patron of the English Football Association - says the blackout often stops him being able to watch his side when he can't get to matches.

Get yourself a fire stick , problem solved!

Dear Prince Willy...irritating is when you are cold, and can't afford to put the heating on,or when you have to buy food off the "Yellow sticker" shelf.Hope this helps

Entitled he might be, but he does have a point. The rules were originally set up to prevent televised matches taking revenue from clubs through potentially lost ticket sales but I don't think that would really have the impact they fear now. I would always much prefer to physically attend a game than watch it on tv if I had the option and I'm sure that those that can afford to do so would still attend matches rather than watch it on telly/ live stream.

If 3pm Saturday kick offs were to be broadcast, this could also benefit clubs who could gain revenue through streaming their games live via their own websites. At £10 a match I personally can't afford to watch every game but I'd be able to watch a couple a month and be much happier to have the option of being able to watch the match rather than just listen to the radio commentary. They're allowed to broadcast/live stream abroad so why not at home?

Doubtless, if the rules for 3pm Sat kick offs were to change Sky would probably want all the rights but I'd be much happier if that didn't happen and the club's got the money to broadcast instead.

Sorry but this is a classic of someone getting criticised because of who he is not what he says.

For example if 3 o'clock kick offs were allowed then Albion's game v Sunderland could kick off at 3 along with all the televised matches that day. Isn't that what we all want?

He's on the FA not the EFL who I assume it is insist on this stupidly archaic rule.

I guess it is irritating if you are able to afford to pay to watch the televised matches but can't.
It's never bothered me if I can't see an Albion game there's always another one around the corner.
The club provide full mach replays, there's one of the Burnley game up currently.
Seeing a match once a fortnight is enough for me.

His views lost all merit the moment he started waxing lyrical about the Vile. Just another Viler ......... clearly more en'titled' than most but a Viler all the same 😉.

I was thinking of the fans who turn up and pay. They want as many 3 o'clocks as they can. Don't they?

As I live in Canada, I can get the full video package from WBA TV and am able to watch all the games live. I buy the package because a) I want to watch the games and b) I feel like it?s the only realistic way I can support West Brom financially since getting to games is a bit of a haul.
I think it would be a wise thing for the teams to offer tv/livestream games on a subscription basis no matter where you live. I think they would increase their revenue that way since not everybody that wants to get to the game can manage it for any number of reasons such as health, distance, ticket prices, ticket availability, travel costs, time constraints, other commitments, etc.
So would the team rather collect $10 from those people who cannot attend for whatever reason but would like to, or nothing?
The bottom line is if the product is good, people will pay to watch it whether it?s in person or on tv.

Yes we do. Meanwhile I was thinking there's already too many Vilers in the world as it is without William adding to their number. Bet he doesn't have to bother with paying for match tickets and train fares.

Funnily enough he probably wants the 3pm blackout scrapped so he can watch their games on TV without having to bother going to Witton. Can't say I blame him 😉 .

Shockingly the front of the sun today has a full page article entitled "why I fell in love with the vile".
Just as the scousers did, we need to boycott the sun.
