    Ratings v Chesterfield

Slocombe 7 Got himself out of a hole he dug in the sixth minute and produced important saves and sound punches. No blame for their goals
Macari 6 Mainly sound but gave away possession leading up to their first.
Platt 6 Won everything in the air but crucially caught out on the ground in our box
Bedeau 7 Sound in everything he did
Gordon 6 Did a lot of important defensive work and in attack got the ball into the box regularly
Palmer 6 Generally tidy but needs to be more positive ? in the first half a run on goal opened up for him but he chose to pass
Abbott 7 Irresistible in the first half, not quite as effective in the second
Tsaroulla 5 Very little creativity and one wayward shot
Grant 6 Showed more steel than usual but still think we should expect more from him
McGoldrick 6 Little dividend for plenty of effort
Jatta 6 Some decent hold-up play and lay-offs but found wanting in front of goal

Whittaker 6 Provided energy and enthusiasm
Jarvis 6 Timid in the tackle but skills rewarded with a goal

Home defeats, of which we have suffered too many, are naturally dispiriting but this was not an inept performance, just one where our mistakes were punished and we did not cause enough panic in the away box to force Chesterfield into errors. However, some may view my ratings too generous.

Slocombe 6 few times he punched when should of caught and should have conceded first half from his error but recovered well.

Macari 6 had the pace in defence we needed facing dobra and did ok, tried to carry the ball forward but gave it away too often.

Platt 6 won every header all game, but gave ball away for their 2nd so no higher than a 6

Bedeau 8 really good, got forward well and his tracking back to stop dobra on the break 2nd half was amazing.

Gordon 4 both goals came down his side ( I think) and put one good cross in all game. He is the only option on the right currently but nowhere near good enough

Palmer 6 does the basics well.

Abbott 7 faded a bit second half but usual effort, never get a bad performance from him. Too good for us.

Tsaroulla 5 did well first 20 but then wasn't involved and don't remember him doing much.

Grant 7 thought he was really good first half, and then when he went off 2nd half we instantly lost the midfield battle. Looks a lot better when didzy plays.

McGoldrick 8/5 first 30 minutes brilliant but then faded badly. Shouldn't of had to play the 90 but when he's fit he's too good still

Jatta 6 did well, missed his 1 on 1 but keeper did very well. Some nice holdup play and never hides. Had no chance with majority of Gordon's terrible crosses.

Whittaker 2 lost the midfield when he came on, and missed a free header from 6 yards in injury time. Doesn't offer anything 99% of the time.

Jarvis 6.5 obviously needs a preseason to hit the gym and get a better understanding of our system, but some tidy runs and a goal.

Was a MOTM announced today, because if it was I missed it.

George Abbott shaded it again for me.

Slocombe - 7 - Thought he was good. One obvious rick but all round he was good.

Macari - 6.5 - Defended well, a bit slow in possession at times.

Platt - 6.5 - Marshalled their big lad superbly until the first with the slightest drop in concentration and a poor ball for the second.

Bedeau - 8 - MOTM - Absolutely superb in everything he did.

Gordon - 6 - Became very predictable going forward. Poor for the first goal.

Tsaroulla - 6 - A willing runner but faded before he went off.

Palmer - 6.5 - A very Matt Palmer outing. Ticked us over well, looked better when he drove with the ball at feet.

Abbott - 7.5 - A very George Abbott outing. Did not do enough on the edge of the box for their winner.

Grant - 7 - Good performance. Carried the ball well and showed excellent movement. Should be given a run in the 10.

McGoldrick - 7.5 - Great to see him back. Excellent with the ball, good all round.

Jatta - 7 - Was well marshalled by Grimes and Palmer but still had a big impact. Excellent link up play. Had two big chances in the first half, one has to go in.

Jarvis - Smart finish. He has definitely got something.

Whitaker - Some lovely deft touches, lots of chasing and harrying. Should do better with the header late on.

Well, when it's another dreadful result, especially in our local Derby, this thread is redundant. Load of ****e, nobody in that result should be left thinking I've done alright.

Woodypie! Come on. There were some good performances out there today.
The defending however was reminiscent of last season. Anything to do with Bass being out?

I thought the performance was ok but games are won and lost in the penalty areas. We didn?t take our chances when on top, which has been our biggest weakness this season. We?re an attack minded team that plays a high press and pushes players forward. With that in mind our goals against column is decent but we haven?t killed teams off when we?ve smothered them, particularly early in games.

Not as dominant on crosses as we all know by now I think.

Its pointless having the the better of teams in most games if you dont take your chances in front of goal. If Plymouth come back for Jatta in the summer with a million pound offer i would snatch their hands off.. His missed chances have cost us enough points that would have put us top of the league.. As good a player that he is, I think we could do better.

I think that Jatta is a fine player, but also that he has missed a hatful of good chances in recent games. I hope he will rediscover the scoring touch soon. I am not sure where we might find someone better for L2.
