Matchday thread: Derby v PNE 2.4.2025

Originally scheduled for Saturday the 29th at 3 o'clock, has now been rearranged for Wednesday April 2nd at 19:45 due to PNE having got through to the next round of the Cup. That will be 18 days after our previous game away at Plymouth on March 15th.

This could be a double edged sword. Depending on results elsewhere in between, we will have the PNE game in hand and will know how far off safety we are. Will we be closer than we are now and be encouraged by the situation or will we be so far behind we may as well not bother?

Being the refill my glass type, I hope, and that's exactly what it is, hope, that we are closer to safety than we currently are.

Hopefully suffering a cup hangover and feeling safe from relegation PNE may be lacking motivation for this one.
It’s winnable anyway, even though they are one of the draw specialists in the division.
A win will leave us just six points behind them and defeat may well be catastrophic to our hopes depending on how other results go elsewhere, so…2-0 to the Rams for an unprecedented four in a row.

Shame they didn't go to extra time and penalties before losing

Any win takes us out of the bottom 3. A 2 goal or better win margin will see 4 teams below us in the League. We can do it. 50 points is USUALLY enough to avoid the drop. That's 12 points we need from the remaining 8 games. 3 home wins plus anything we get against Burnley as a bonus and 1 win or 3 draws or better from the remaining 4 away games. Certainly not impossible.

I'm too stressed about the implications of a loss to form an objective prediction. I just hope we give it everything, no time left for "off" games.

Here's my go at predicting the starting XI. There's a couple of either/ors as I'm not sure who's fit and who isn't.

    JWZ

Langas Phillips Clark (If Langas isn't fit, Foz)

Wilson Adams Tommo Elder (Foz if Elder's injured)

    Armstrong

Yates NML (rather have Wheeldon or Agbawodikeizu than NML but maybe see one or both on the bench)
