    O/T Insomnia

I'm suffering with this lately. Ive tried a few methods to get to sleep but to no avail. After lying there last night for 4 hrs i had to get up and read. Noticed that Mick is generally a late poster and omeg posted at 2am, are you both in a similar situation? Anybody with any tips to sleep for at least 6hrs?

My daily routine changed 18 years ago when I started selling online Phil, I found myself answering customer messages until late at night.

I went from going to bed at 11.30pm or just after to after 1.00am and it’s gradually got worse, I tend to get into bed around 1.30am to 1.45am now.

My sleep used to them be good but now it’s not, I sometimes take 2 to 3 hours to drop off and I also seem to wake about an hour after dropping off.

I now wake multiple times per night.

One thing that’s worth trying is putting your head down in the afternoon if you’ve had a bad night, I find that because there’s no pressure on you to actually fall asleep in the day it’s often easier to drop off.

I’m very stressed at present and stress now seems to badly affect my sleep pattern.

My missus gets up and makes herself a cuppa if she can’t sleep and then moves to another bed for the night as we have four spare beds!

I now move beds on bad nights and that tends to help, a fresh bed with nobody asleep next to you can be a real help.

I also find that lying close to an open window with a cool breeze can be a help.

My sleep pattern has been rubbish for years now. I wake up several times a night and sometimes don't fall asleep at all. Then I have to get up at three or four in the morning and go downstairs. I listen to some music then about 6-6.30am I start to feel tired and dog doze on the sofa. Even with medication to help me sleep and to stop restless leg syndrome I still never get a good clear night's sleep.

Sadly, mine is mostly down to working nights and my shift pattern that sometimes sees me in for 2/3 nights, off for the next then back in again. My boss tries to get us all at least 2 nights off together but with staff cuts/ workload it isn't always possible. Does play havoc with my body clock though! Mind you, don't know anyone on nights who gets a proper sleep and most lucky to get 5 hours straight. Can't be good for you. Only work p/t now as I stepped down to help my son who has AS and better half who has fibro. so days when I'm not on shift are pretty full.

As for insomnia, the older I've become the more I seem prone to it. I do stuff like avoiding eating too late, trying to relax with a book beforehand and always sleep with the window open (I'm luckily in a rural/coastal area so quiet-until the dawn chorus!&#128512 but doesn't always work. Problem is, after what seems like hours of lying there you decide to read or watch something and before you know it's nearly 4 o'clock! Listening to music sometimes helps but oddly can't get on with those "relaxing/help you sleep" background noise/music things you find on youtube.

Agree with Mick that a big factor in insomnia is often stress and I've certainly had times in the past where I've lain awake at night mulling stuff over but think the main cause for me now is my shift pattern which puts my body clock all over the place for too many days a week.

My bladder! Up twice a night for a pee, sometimes find it hard to get back off to sleep, one method works well gently hold your breath and slowly release, do that a few times and it often helps me drift back off.

    Twice a night for a p I s s Dave😩😮

Mate, have you had a prostate test done, if not it’s imperative that you do.

Even if you just have the blood test done if you don’t fancy the internal examination.

If you do have the internal one done, the time to worry is when you can feel the doctor rooting around up your rectum and you suddenly realise he has both hands on your shoulders! 🫣

At least get the blood test done chap.

I've had spells of insomnia for the last forty years Phil', as such I shall excuse myself from this thread as I'm clearly the wrong person to ask about getting off to sleep and staying there 😊 .

Hi Mick, yes have had a couple of PSA tests over the years, my bladder is an enigma it can hold a good few pints before the seal goes, yet wakes me twice a night for a minor tinkle!

Apparently, it’s an age thing. It is said that the older you get the less sleep you need. I wake up on average between half five and six in the morning but it can be as early as three sometimes. Mind you, when I was working I was up at six.

If I slept for more then two hours uninterrupted, I would have thought I died.
Been that way since childhood for me. My astronomy and short wave radio hobbies always had me staying awake through the night.

Insomnia is like a friend. 🌜🌘
