    Has the penny dropped ?

With Conner clearly changing the style and formation of the football have the suits finally decided to leave it those who know the game to a have a free reign or is it just wishful thinking on my part ? Also have some of our fan base that there is no such thing as a " Barnsley Way " just simply a manager been allowed to play and coach in a way which he can get a tune out of the squad he has available to him , interestingly when we were in a decent position in january our head of recruitment went out and strengthened us for the big push , well Conner showed what he thought of that , look at the team selection last saturday and look at his use of the substitutes , the january recruits contributing nothing . It could be a false dawn , I am curious as to what other fans thoughts are .

I hope so Shad but heart of hearts I don't think so. If CH was to persist with this change then he will be not asked to stay on imo

If anyone and I mean fans, owners, chief execs, coaches, kitman, tea lady, etc watched that on Saturday and doesn?t now want to fully abandon 5-3-2 forever, then I give up. Wingers picking the ball up and driving forward with it is something I?ve missed a lot.

For years I?ve never been too bothered about the formations, I just want to see us playing fast, aggressive football both with the ball and without. But after watching wing backs for the past few seasons, I?m bored of them now.

Agree about the January signings and even O?Keeffe to a degree. Bland has come in and is more trusted to be a right back than O?Keeffe or Lembikisa. Says a lot about how Bland has slotted into the team really well but also the defensive awareness and ability of the 2 mentioned. Cotter coming on up top instead of Rodrigues too. Somehow I can?t see any of the loanees being signed on a permanent deal.

I?m still more in favour of the 343 formation.
I don?t like 3412 - because I want to see 3 strikers up front waiting to receive the ball - and I want to see an high press of 3 which puts more pressure on a team that plays tippy tappy from the back.

    I don?t like a flat back 4 because it?s more defensive.
I prefer every player on the field other than the goalkeeper to have the freedom to run forward with the ball.
Which is more difficult to do with a flat back 4 because obvious gaps appear at the back.

I also don?t like 3 across the middle of midfield - as that often just leaves one anchor defensive midfielder.
I prefer two midfielders in the middle sealing off the midfield.

In other words I prefer the Ismael approach.
Or should that be the Barnsley Way approach ?

Clearly there has been discussions behind the scenes to start the game 433.
    It definitely worked against Bolton.
I think the basis behind that was cutting the cloth to suit - using the players available in a way to get the best for the team.

But I?d be surprised if 433 was adopted for the coming season.

We'll find out soon enough where we are in the summer when players are sold or not offered new deals and we see what the replacements are .

The bag of b@llax that was dished up in January is handed out again this summer then clearly nothing will be learned .

Well I, amongst others, thought it was Sormaz that was the problem.
    Apparently it isn?t.
I?m wondering now if Sormaz and Neerav decided to ditch Clarke last year and didn?t bother too much with regards to the January Window ???
Keeping the powder dry for this summer.
I?m suspecting a new HC was lined up before Christmas.

Even by your standards that's complete rubbish .

We were in the play offs going in to the new year coming off the back of playing our best football of the season and taking care of rivals Bolton and Wrexham .

So at that point they'd decided that Clarke wasn't up to it and that he wasn't to be backed in January despite looking as though we could secure a play off place .

Sormaz not the problem ? then who is to blame for the complete january shambles ? , as I pointed out in an earlier post the january signings do not get near a first eleven , it was a joke of a window which put pay to any hopes this season about making the play offs and your comment about playing a flat back four makes us more defensive is laughable , I take it you were not at Oakwell last saturday where we had wingers attacking , it was a throw back to Hammell and Disco , it was attacking , we got players pushing forward in numbers and for the first time this season at home it was an actual pleasure to watch.

Then who is to blame - Neerav.
No I wasn?t at the game - but I?ve only missed two games this season.
We haven?t the quality of player to play a back 4 that can leave their position and attack.
Consequently all defenders in a back four defend.
The result of that is that is the team becomes predictable and less flexible.
Neither Freiser, Dike or Morris were wingers - but they played as an attacking 3.
Same as Humphreys, Dunn and Fabio did.
I would not describe any of those as wingers like Hammill and Disco.

Yes yer right - it was a pleasure to watch.
Although the formation was different in a 433 the team played more like a team than in any other game this season.
    Notably:
There were 3 players involved in the high press that got amongst their defenders and cut down passes.
The midfielders supporting that high press.
And importantly our defence played as a single unit that caught Bolton offside a couple of times.
