    The clear out begins.

Barnsley FC announce that Martin Devaney has mutually agreed to part ways from his role as Assistant Head Coach with immediate effect.
Devaney, who first joined the Club as a player in 2005 from Watford, began his coaching career at Oakwell with the Club's academy in November 2015 before stepping up to the first team in 2022. The 44-year-old has twice held the role of caretaker manager.

Sporting Director Mladen Sormaz said, ?We?d like to thank Martin for his dedication over the years within both the academy and the first team. Martin is a Barnsley legend from his time as a player and coach and therefore will always be welcome at Oakwell, we wish him every success for the future.?

Martin Devaney commented, "I would like to thank everyone at Barnsley Football Club for the many years of support, trust and shared experiences. After open and honest discussions, the club and I have mutually agreed that now is the right time to part ways.

"Barnsley has been a huge part of my life ? not only as a coach, but a player, caretaker manager and someone who has proudly worked across the academy and development squads, and I am particularly proud to have witnessed my son progressing through the academy system.

"It is an honour to have been able to represent this club in various capacities. Barnsley means a great deal to me and always will. I leave with great memories, from pulling on the shirt as a player, helping guide the next generation of Barnsley players and securing my first win as caretaker manager against Bolton Wanderers last year. The journey has been one full of immense pride and learning.

"I would like to thank the owners, especially the Cryne family Patrick, Jean and James the executive team and all of the staff I have worked alongside over the years ? I am equally grateful to the players for their trust and commitment throughout our time working together. Most of all, thank you to the Barnsley supporters for their unwavering passion and support. You make this club what it is.

"I will take away valuable experiences and lessons that will undoubtedly serve me well in the next chapter of my career. I wish everyone connected to Barnsley Football Club the very best for the future. It will always be a source of great pride to have been a part of Barnsley Football Club?s history".

    Sad news.
    Bad news.
Disco was the eyes and ears for the directors.
    He was trusted.
    He was loyal.
Why sack someone who has those qualities ?
Unless of course there is someone in middle management that wants to hide things.

The directors that he was loyal to being the Cryne Family.
His leaving and his statement indicates there?s friction behind the scenes.

IMO - admittedly guess work - Sormaz and Hourihane do not want anything leaking to the directors - especially the Crynes.

I?ve got a really bad feeling about the Disco sacking.
    Why sack a loyal servant?

I felt exactly the same when they sacked Collins with one match to go and a play off position secured !!

I'd like to remember him and thank him as a very good servant to this football club. I really liked him as a player. He always gave it his all and had quick feet and a great ability to whip in a Beckham style cross around the defender. He was part of the 2006 promotion team that won in the Millennium stadium, a part of the team that beat Liverpool and Chelsea and reaching the Cup semi final in 2008. He made over 100 appearances in the Championship for us, and more than held his own at that level. He scored some very good goals for us too, an absolute beauty at Plymouth that I remember and one against Leeds and a great volley against Watford.

Thanks for your efforts mi owd

He has been a good servant to the club and if he was to be moved to one side I would like to have seen him back in the academy set up where he did very well but he may have decided that after 20 years at the club he needs a change or a fresh challenge , I have read various comments where the club are taking stick but on this occasion it might be worth seeing how things develop for Disco before appointing blame and lets be fair he might have been a great servant to the club but he will also have made a decent living out of being here , what ever happens I like most Barnsley fans wish him well for the future but the fact that he is moving on has not upset me , sacking managers and H.C "s every season upsets me a lot more.

I wish Devaney well and hope he gets another job in football soon. I think it?s hard for coaches that have come up through the youth levels to the first team to then go back down to the youth so once the time is up, I guess that?s bye bye.

I?ve seen people say ?Stead next?. None of us (unless you?re involved at the club at training or on match days) knows how good or bad our coaches are. I think after this season a lot of people want a fresh start kind of thing and I think that?s come into play with this Devaney departure.

Conor says “There needs to be a change around the football club in terms of faces around, players, staff or whatever. I think that’s what the club needs, a new culture and environment and people to bring something different and I think that’s important moving forward.”

On the prospect of further coaching changes, he added: “Time will tell on that.”

I think everyone on here will agree with that, well almost.
