Match Ratings vs. Harrogate Town FC 26.04.25

Bass 6 - two great saves but a bad clearance led to the Harrogate goal.
    McDonald 6 - Solid
Platt 7 - Generally good with a couple of forward runs.
Bedeau - 7.5 Held things together in a slightly wobbly first half.
Gordon - 8 Amazing goal line clearance prevented Harrogate getting on top.
Abbott 7 - Popping up everywhere, not his most effective game, but, oh , we would have missed him had he not played.
    Palmer - 6.5 Quietly effective.
Jones - 7. Showed a couple of promising glimpses. The playoffs could be the stage he is ready for.
Grant - 8 A life saving tackle and two goals. MOM
McGoldrick 7 - Quality, nothing really came off for him today, but fans at this level will know they have had value for money from their admission fee.
    Jatta - 6.5

Stuart Maynard - 8.5 , his first full season and auto's still possible.
Ref 9.5 I can't remember anything about him. Always a good sign.

First and second halves were so different. The extra commitment shown after the break earned its rewards but the lack of it in the first half was worrying. Can Maynard take credit for the turnaround? Grant possibly shades a MoM nomination although Gordon would be in the running for it.

Bass 6 One misjudgement almost cost us but fine after that. Decent distribution too.
McDonald 7 Solid game and saved Bass’s blushes with goal line clearance
    Platt 7 Competent throughout
Bedeau 7 One scary moment but the rest was as we expect
Gordon 7 Performances like this at both ends of the pitch would have him on the team sheet every week
Palmer 7 A level above his previous games
Jones 6 Seemed to have gained a yard of pace but still not the end product
Abbott 7 Lost a couple of tackles but a really important goal amid the full commitment
Grant 7 Great touch in the lead-up to the first goal and two poachers’ goals of his own
McGoldrick 7 On a quiet day by his standards his touches and carrying of the ball was so valuable
Jatta 6 Plenty of selfless running, drew one good save with a header and rebound from a shot led to Grant’s first

Traore 6 Getting up to speed
Hinchy 6 Not really called on after coming on to the pitch
Whittaker 6 Provided some much-needed legs
    Jarvis 6 Ditto Hinchy

    Nice one, ThaiPie. I'd go

Bass 7 - Saves and good distribution
McDonald 5 - Great goal-line clearance, but the rest of his game wasn't on point
Platt 7 - Where was he for the goal? Apart from that really good
Bedeau 8 - MoM, seemed determined to make up for last week, and did
Gordon 8 - I'm back in! Another comeback game, could've finished with a bagful of assists
Abbott 8 - Scored and heavily involved throughout
    Palmer 6 - Absolutely fine
Jones 6 - He's getting there, soon he'll be turning all those wasted possessions into magic
McGoldrick 7 - Amazing level of activity for a pensioner, oozes class, although much of his stuff didn't come off today
Grant 8 - Why not? A brace of winning goals in a crucial away game
Jatta 6 - Needs a confidence boost, or a week of blasting it into a net from all angles. So low on confidence he's even trying to disallow the goals the ref's given us!

    Subs
    Traore 6
    Whitaker 7 - looked sharp
    Jarvis 6
    Hinchy 7

I'm interested to hear from the guys and girls who saw the match live, if they see the ratings any different. As I do occasionally walk to the fridge!

I think that McGoldrick was the best player on the pitch and showed an epic work rate. 1st half defending was near catastrophic so I would say the positive ratings for the defence are 2nd half biased. Grant was very good so an 8 from me. I would bring back Macari for Rod, and be tempted to give more minutes to Whitaker and Jarvis in the coming games. Overall a very positive afternoon and let's hope we can build some momentum going fowards.

Agree that McGoldrick's class was so evident but when results count the actions that gain three points rather than one have to be decisive in the MoM decision.

The referee was an upgrade on many we have seen this season but, on watching the extended highlights, I'm puzzled as to why he awarded the free kick which Belshaw belted upfield for their goal. On the day I assumed it was for Jatta running offside but that doesn't appear to be the case. The linesman didn't raise his flag and sprinted along with the play.

Didzy was deemed to have brought it down with his arm, hence why the kick was further up the pitch.

I would go with this, but possible bump Jodi up a mark. I thought the second half was the closest hes looked to himself since the injury near the start of the season.

Gordon was great, hes had four or five performances like that now, its so frustrating that we havent managed to get that out of him consistently.

I would agree with those. We just now need to make sure we get the win against Donny, and hope Bradford & Walsall lose..
