    Newcastle United v Everton

    Team news
Newcastle United's top scorer Alexander Isak has not trained this week but head coach Eddie Howe says there's still a chance he could be involved.

Kieran Trippier is also a doubt but fellow full-back Matt Targett may return to the squad after a month out.

Everton are without defenders Jarrad Branthwaite and Seamus Coleman as both suffered thigh injuries during last weekend's win over Southampton.

Midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure is set to play his 166th and final game for the club.

    Match facts
    Head-to-head

Newcastle are unbeaten in four top-flight home meetings with Everton, winning three and drawing one.

However, the Toffees have kept 18 Premier League clean sheets against the Magpies, only shutting out Liverpool (21) and West Ham (23) more often.

    Newcastle United

Newcastle have won six successive Premier League home games and are vying to win seven in a row for the first time since December 2023.

Victory would guarantee Champions League qualification for next season. A point would also be enough if Aston Villa fail to beat Manchester United or Chelsea draw with Forest.

The Magpies have won 12 top-flight home fixtures in 2024-25, last faring better in 2002-03 when they claimed 15 victories at St James' Park under Sir Bobby Robson.

Newcastle have won their final league game in eight of the past 10 seasons (D1, L1).

Eddie Howe's side had five shots on target in the opening 17 minutes of their defeat at Arsenal last weekend but failed to muster another one for the remainder of the game.

Howe is vying to become the fifth English manager to achieve two or more top-four finishes in the Premier League, emulating Kevin Keegan, Roy Evans, Sir Bobby Robson and Harry Redknapp.

    Everton

Everton could end the season with three successive league victories for the first time since 1989.

Only four sides have amassed more points than Everton's 28 since they won their first Premier League game under David Moyes this season on 19 January.

The Blues have lost their final league fixture in six of the past eight seasons, with their only victory in that time coming at home to Bournemouth in 2023.

Iliman Ndiaye has scored six goals in his last 10 Premier League starts, including a brace in the final Premier League game at Goodison Park last weekend.

The Senegal international is averaging a goal every 141 minutes under David Moyes, compared to one every 506 minutes under previous boss Sean Dyche.

We've got 21 points more than Everton.

Scored 27 more goals and conceded 2 more goals than Everton.

We can see how to improve and it's not necessarily in the goal scoring department. We definitely need to get back to the tight defence of 2 seasons ago.

With that defensive record we'd have been in with a title shout this season.

However, look at the head to head, we're gonna batter these.

Without Coleman they will have a second choice RB playing, I really hope we see Gordon start on the left so we take advantage of that.

I?d also hope to see Murphy playing in his usual position, with Targett at LB and Tino at RB.

Reasoning is, if we start Wilson we need the players around him that can deliver the ball to him in the box, he?s not got the pace, but I believe he can still find the back of the net, and as much as we all hate Mr T-Rex, he?s a good keeper and we need to maximise the chances of us scoring.

If we start Barnes on the left we?re giving them a get of jail card, and if the last few games are anything to go by he?ll be cutting into midfield to get the ball into his right foot and trying to do too much on his own.

We need to take advantage of their injuries, make the most of the pitch instead of limiting ourself on the left and not using the width, and having Murphy do what he does best? and that?s not defending.

Confident we?ll get 3 points, the lads will see this as another cup final, which effectively it is for us, and 3 points guarantees CL football.

    Howay the lads!!!

Also, I have to believe that we will want it more? Everton literally have nothing to play for? they can neither gain or lose a position in the table, half their squad is leaving next season too? not a single one of those players (if they play) can risk getting injured.

It?s in our hands, we have more to gain and lose, so I?m expecting complete commitment and effort from every single player every single minute.

Yes, in a way, ours is a positive motivation whilst theirs is a negative one and you'd hope ours is stronger because of that.

As for Barnes, he runs into trouble far too often-he needs a better footballing brain to go with his undoubted ability (although, on that, he could do less of over-hitting the ball or putting it just behind players).

Gordon on the left and Murphy on the right is the way I'd go.

Ashley Young will be at RB for them. He's a cheat. He always manages to worm a card out of his opposite number against us.

He's not fast and he falls over at every opportunity. I Loathsome ex-Filth scumbag who still carries the stench of swamp water on him.

Pickford will be without Branthwaite and Tarkowski who are both injured. They're thread bare at the back and emotionally they'll be depleted after last week's good bye to Goodison.

They are there for the taking. This group of Newcastle United players, the management team included are winners. They get the job done. No half measures.

I do expect Isak to start. Barnes or Gordon on the left. Gordon, has a point to prove after the poor performance at Goodison earlier this season and his recent poor form.

If Barnes starts, Gordon's on as an impact sub in the 2nd half. However, I expect us to be 2 goals to the good by half time.

We will win this and put to bed any discussion about qualification.

The club are offering 2 free pints, the ground will be packed early and the Toon army will be in full voice. Much like the battering we gave Chelsea. When we needed the win against a tough opponent in a high stakes match, the lads got the job done.

I expect more of the same here.
