Charlton start off their Championship return with a solid win against Watford. Nathan Jones again set up his refreshed squad defensively to keep a clean sheet but with plenty of attacking options. Charlton certainly had the lion share of chances.
The Add1cks had the better of the first half, Lloyd Jones and newcomer Rob Apter signed from Blackpool did well forcing early saves from Watford's GK Egil Selvik.
Watford nearly scored after the second half started. Charlton had a penalty appeal turned down when Josh Edwards appeared to go down under the challenge of Jeremy Ngakiathe for Watford.
Charlie Kelman had a close-range attempt saved by Selvik and Apter unleashed a shot just wide of the Watford goal just before the regulatory full-time.
The winning goal came four minutes into stoppage time. Lloyd Jones who covered so much ground headed across goal from a Conor Coventry corner. Debutant Harvey Knibbs was in pole position to score the winning goal from close range, a winning start for the Add1cks.
