    Who Was Your Manager?

Who was the manager of WBA when you first supported them? For me it was Alan Ashman, although I was a little young to really know that. He was only at the Albion 4 years he seemed to have been there longer, which he should have been. He was sacked while on holiday in Greece, because the board wanted the club to win more trophies after the 1968 success.

He went on to manage Carlisle taking them from the 2nd division to the top flight and i remember at one point that he managed to get the club top of the old 1st division for a short time!!

Alan Ashman for me, an FA Cup winning manager, sadly, never to be seen again in my lifetime

I have been an Albion fan for as long as I can remember. It must have been Gordon Clark.

I started supporting Albion when Vic Buckingham was in charge. Whilst all the other boys at school were supporting the big named clubs, I was the only one to support the Baggies. Don't ask me why, maybe I liked the colours!

I have had to look it up…my first match, on my own, at the Hawthorns was season 1961-2 which was Clark…albeit I don’t remember being aware of the manager in those days ! We lost to West Ham.
I was taken a couple of times by family before then, I think in the late 1950s…but again don’t remember the year nor the match.
