Classical Music lovers - you can get a fix in lockdown

The Royal Scottish National Orchestra at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall is where we used to go at weekends. Usually great evenings out.

If any of you fancy watching a digital concert there are a number for free on you tube from last years Season they fortunately recorded in the main hall before lockdown.

Usually half a normal night at between 40 - 60 mins, with some eminent conductors and soloists - quite a lot of Beethoven in the others

    Mahler https://youtu.be/G5veX4Blbzo
Debussy 1 Sir Roger Norrington conducting https://youtu.be/NTRi8YrL0zM
Saint Saens Organ symphony No 3 conductor Neeme Jarvi https://youtu.be/fZ_eZUgbzFA

Google “rsno friday night club youtube”. For the full list

They have now launched a Digital Season of 10 socially distanced and longer concerts in October in their rehearsal room which cost £9.50 each or £90 for all 10. Released every 2 weeks but all available for the rest of the season

Nice to hear the orchestra and conductors speaking about how much it means to them.

Fed up with lock down why not join the 4000 subscribers and try some.

    You’re welcome 59
    Enjoy

Sir Roger is 86 and a perfectionist who sets the orchestra up as it was when the music was written so you get the original experience. Eg First and second violins on opposite sides of the orchestra.
    Here’s Eroica with him https://youtu.be/3_8K8bVNF8k

Neeme is 83 and was principal conductor here in the 80s.

Gustav Holst played Second Trombone for the RSNO from 1900 to 1904

Any luck 59. I’m watching the other half of the Jaarvi concert now!

    Just hot off the press

We're delighted that our performance of Götterdämmerung with Sir Andrew Davis and @RSNO from the 2019 Edinburgh International Festival has been nominated for this year's Classical Music Award at the South Bank #SkyArts Awards

I started with Motown in about 1964, then got hooked on Northern Soul with the whole "Northern" thing - all-nighters, girls, drugs, Lambrettas and have never regretted not moving on from that scene, OC.

I know there is another world out there, I enjoy the theatre, I have seen several of the most famous philharmonic orchestras and have even been to the London ballet, but I have never been able to emulate being "Out on the floor" with Northern Soul tunes belting out.

    Each to their own eh?

I enjoy most kinds of music (I struggle with country, rap and "hard" jazz).

Mrs 59-60 was a regular at Wigan Pier back in the day, and I like that stuff too.

In fact, I loved all the music in the 60's and 70's but tended to listen to the noisier ones.

Me too but the noisier ones and screaming girls did for my hearing I believe.

    Absolutely
Still into drugs, all nighters and Lambrettas 😳
I loved the northern scene as portrayed by Nelson Imperial and the multi group tours of the 60s but never had such a life.
Our tastes are quite eclectic now, like you we’ve done a few ballets and even some operas but usually enjoy the RSNO and the odd concert.
