    On This Day

16th Nov 1966 at a jam packed Tannadice, goals from Ian Mitchell and Billy Hainey followed up a remarkable first leg result in the Nou Camp as United once again humbled the Catalan giants. What made this result all the more remarkable was that this occurred some five years before Jim McLean took over and indeed some thir**** years before 1979 when the history of Dundee United commenced, according to your average Funster.

    Who’d have thunk it?

I was there. Amazing experience. What a night! Never been able to find any film of it though. Don't think there is any.

Front row is Finn Seeman, Jimmy Millar missing a tooth, Dennis Gillespie and Ian Mitchell.
Doug Smith standing on bench at back.
Back row Jimmy Briggs aka Gunboat, Tommy Neilson (?),
Lennart (nothing gets by me) Wing, Dave McKay gk, Billy Hainey.

    I think.

In the days before substitutions were allowed only 11 players took part, there's 10 in the picture so one is missing
