Wow! Didn't see that one coming!
Interesting about the sell on clause though. If we trigger a contract extension then it sounds like it might remove the sell on clause to Huddersfield.
Nothing surprises me when its rufc!
Given we had already given up, we should have just cashed in January. That is if there were any actual offers?
mistake in not letting him go when we had the chance imo but you never know some other club with more money than sense might take the bait
There was a lot of talk about Ipswich being interested in Ward as a permanent replacement for Tom Lawrence when he goes back to Leicester.
Tony Stewart told us we didn't need to sell but money always talks where RUFC are concerned.
I just hope Warne uses the money to bring in a proven League 1 striker.
We don't need to sell but if a player wants to go what's the point in holding him back......that lad scored some good goals this season only to put his hands on his hips and stare at the OLD old fashioned defence - then hang his head.
Sadly - those very same defenders that actually cost us the championship will get another contract and he doesn't want a repeat of this season.....good luck to him - he didn't lack form - he lacked the service he got in those early games !
I can't see how the option on Ward's deal would nullify the sell on clause? As often as not these days the sell on clauses are ironclad and go on through the players career. We may have to Pay Huddersfield 40% and there might be a clause that says the club we sell him to has to pay Huddersfield 20% when they sell him. We made a few quid doing that with Lewis Grabban.
Get him sold before his price drops further.
We could get a waterfall and a couple of rivers with the money
