    The seed as been sown

We all saw what Warnock did for the Millers, kept the team in the championship, but main thing kept the Millers owner & shareholders in the money.
What did Tony Stewart do, he dilly dallied in not keeping Warnock as manager, as I said in a long previous post, Warnock should have been offered a place on the board, then we would have had a football brain in the boardroom.
What happened was the club got a manager in Alan Stubbs who managed a Scottish championship side, being Tony Stewart & the board not being football wise, thought he would be on par to be a English championship manager.again a bad decision, no football knowledge in the boardroom.
Alan Stubbs bought players in his wisdom, thinking that the players being Scottish championship standard, was the same as the English championship, Stubbs totally got things wrong, paid the prize of dismissal.
But we as fans have to realise that the seed was sown by Tony Stewart, by not having a football focused member on the board of Rotherham United, bad decisions have been the down turn of the club.
Now the club & the fans are paying the penalty, where relegation looks the club in the eyes, bad decisions in the boardroom will cost the club revenue in gate proceeds, & a big fight to get back if relegated.
Fans on the website have said what is wrong, be it the fans pay to watch the club, its time the boardroom listened.

Pockets post is bang on. Its unfortunate how things worked out but it was in Warnocks hand to take or leave. He hesitated and cost us. UTM.

Read my post carefully Pocket Rocket, I said Tony Stewart should have offered a post on the board, on offer was just the managers job, so Warnock didn't mess up, Tony Stewart messed up big style, no one on the board with football knowledge.

When you look at our record of our life in the 2nd tier of English football we shouldn't be surprised at what is happening, apart from the odd blip (81/82) its been a constant struggle for over 50 years ! In todays football financial climate I can see it only getting worse for us.
It doesn't appear that we will ever get back the kind of support that a town the size of Rotherham should command. The new stadium has enticed a good few back but not enough ,in my opinion, to sustain a an extended stay in the Championship. Its a bit of a Catch 22 scenario, no prolonged success, no large following, no big money to invest in Championship standard players

Did you see the article in the last match programme on the old board Minutes? In the 50s we often had crowds of 12k+, but it didn't stop us being in a financial pickle. Matchday income wasn't the answer then, and it is even less so these days. I don't want RUFC to be owned by a Chinese consortium or some dodgy investment bank. The price we pay for being locally owned by a guy who, by my standards, is rich but not rich enough to sustain a Chumpship club, is being labeled a yo-yo club.

He didn't want a board spot though. He wants to be the manager with the most promotions to the prem. TS wanted Warnock to do it in three years, rightly, with the travel and his mrs, he didn't want 3 years of grief. I think Warnock was keen on staying otherwise TS would have said bye, he really hoped it would be made to work.

I don't think either side was trying to pull a fast one.

Warnock was simply hedging his bets. He was hoping that a big club with a competitive budget would have come in for him. I suspect had we waited another couple of weeks, Warnock would have stayed as the offers didn't come in. Of course had we waited and then Warnock had still said no then we would have been in a hell of a pickle. It turns out that we are in a hell of a pickle now anyway but timing was our enemy in the summer.

    That's nonsense I'm afraid.
As soon as Warnock showed hesitation Tony Stewart should have dumped him, moved on and looked for the next manager. Stewart is the employer after all!
The chairman simply wasn't strong enough and allowed himself to be strung along so to blame Warnock for messing him around is laughable because it should never have got to that stage.
And now the club is paying the penalty for that piece of mismanagement followed by the disastrous appointment of Stubbs.
