I don't think they look as dark as where we was and heading 10 years ago, and I think this squad might be struggling a league below. Don't expect an instant top 6 place in division 1 next season.
Papering over the cracks if we sign a boat load of players in January.
Hmmm, let's see, the playing squad is poor, even by League 1 standards, probably two years reconstruction needed but we could make significant progress in the two transfer windows before 2017/18. A major overhaul of our management, training, recruitment and development set-up is needed, it looks dire but this could be achieved in 6 -12 months. Training facilities are adequate for League 1 but remain a priority, there's no sign of movement so let's say 2 -3 years to completion. On this basis I'm not too pessimistic, we could turn things around quite significantly in months rather than years.
However, the major stumbling blocks, given our track record, is recognising and prioritising these key areas, having an action plan in place to delivery them and someone to drive the plan forward because I don't have faith in the Board's ability to do that, we only see knee-jerk reactions once a crisis is upon us. Nobody seems to have the foresight to identify problems before they arise or to plan for the next 2, 3 or 5 years. We've taken the saying 'one match at a time' far too literally.
A little light hearted humour but with a chairman like ours our future may be downward but it should never be dark.
Dunkirk anyone ?
