I read the bit in the Standard today about this, perhaps Mr Rankin would be better concerning himself with his and his team-mates recent performances instead of having a go at the lads in the 20's. Then again It's got to be easier to slag off young boys rather than his team-mates. Less time on twitter and more time on the training pitch for Mr Rankin might help his performances on a Saturday afternoon.
Would imagine Mr Rankin was on about 20's players in general but obviously because he's at Queens our 20's lads will read that and think he's having a dig at them. As far as I'm aware Queens 20's are full time yet only get £10 a week, for that they'll get the privilege of cleaning the stadium on the Monday after a home game, maybe even painting it if needed, clearing snow off the pitch if required, manning the turnstiles and car park on match days and many other chores and all for a tenner a week. These lads have in some instances sacrificed their education and possible apprenticeships to try and make it as a professional footballer and Mr Rankin decides to have a rant on twitter about their perceived lack of commitment...
I wonder how many times Mr Rankin has turned up at any of our youths training sessions and helped the coaches put the young lads through their paces, it would be a nice touch if he [or any of the first team players] has and would no doubt give the youngsters a lift.
Seemingly Mr Rankin has just taken on a coaching with Hearts 17's, why not Queens 17's? No doubt due to money, so before you're willing to do something for next to nothing Mr Rankin please don't have a go at our lads who are, these same lads that probably used to look up to you..
I read the piece by Rankin. I didn`t for a moment think it was specifically aimed at us (i.e. QOS) but more highlighting some of the things he has seen in a long career. For all any of us know he could be brilliant in the way he helps the younger players. Those youth players who are dedicated to improvement will know it`s not about them. Maybe some others might read it and realise they could do more. Don`t see a problem with it personally.
