    How come...

...we (England) can be all conquering at U17 and U20 level and so bloomin' average at senior level?
The old...'our youngsters don't have the technique' argument seems dead in the water.

Ah yes...good old Ronnie. Did you know, that there is a 'thoroughfare' named after him called Ronnie Lane...seriously...somewhere in London.

Think Romanis is right though...they still have a hunger that the 'big boys' have lost.

I think 2 words might provide the answer:

    Desire and determination

Interesting point made during the match suggesting young English players should go on loan abroad to gain experience and match time as premier and championship are too competitive to accommodate them

Hmm, so we send them out to gain what exactly? If they are good enough they should be recognised in this Country and be playing at the highest possible level. Sending them abroad is a great idea if they get the better level of football, but would they?

Putting in place the right system to bring on English players has to be the right way to go. Spain had vastly more trainers and training facilities for instance a while ago and look at their success. Hopefully we are following suit with the likes of St Georges and improved league club facilities as the Rams have tried to do at Moor Farm.....................Maybe Russia is where the revolution starts

Good point about the training facilities Bloomer. I visit a small village in southern Spain quite frequently and they have a superb local small arena...boot the ball high out of the 'ground' and it'll disappear about 700 feet down into a ravine but the facility itself is excellent.
All the small local towns and villages seem to have a football facility the equivalent of something between Moorways and Matlock Town, usually including floodlights, and the kids seem to be encouraged to practice their ball skills in the plazas and squares. All a far cry from parks covered in dog muck and signs saying 'no ball games'. Maybe it's the weather.

This is the St George's Park investment starting to kick in IMO. 2 World Champions and a Euro Championship plus losing semi finalists in a Euro this year.

In 5 years we ought to be able to put out a pretty good side at senior level if their clubs allow them to progress by giving them game time in the PL.

Its a good queston though as to why our England First team cant do well in these WC & EC tournaments, and I dont even mean WIN any of them!. Im just talking about doing 'well' which we havent done for what seems like ages now.
The Bbc pundits were saying its boring watching the First team these days and while I agree with that, none of them dared to say a bad word about the sodding Premship. Thats the reason why the England thing doesnt matter anymore, they see the money and think all about the garbage over rated and over paid Champions league.

Spain has dominated European football for a long time now and pundits say that the PL is the best league in the world but i’m afraid to say it isn’t because they don’t produce enough stars to win on the biggest stages and that hurts the credibility of the PL and makes the Liga Santander as well as the rest of the european leagues make a mockery of the PL.
