Another monumental waste of money.
Might as well have stood at the bridge on Junction 1 of the M5 and thrown half a million quid at the passing traffic!
John Deehan was another beauty......we sure know how to spend money on a top striker!!
That ponce used to drive me mad...he would chase the ball to the keeper even though there was no chance of catching it...the keeper would hoof it up field our defence would win the ball but couldn't play it forward because Luke Moore was walking back...he didn't give a 5hit so long as he looked like he was 'truckin right'....what a useless sod he was.
The worst thing about the Luke Moore signing was the fact we had him on loan first and he showed how inept he was during that period yet we still signed.
Deehan & Mills didn't work out but both were very good at their previous clubs.
David Mills was signed by Atkinson so it was not 1976. Other comments however about the abilities of Mills, Deehan and Moore are unfortunately 100% accurate.
Deehan & Mills looked ok on paper but were a let down, shortly after we signed the three degrees and with the likes of Willie Johnston had some memorable moments, Great time to be a Baggie.
Was thinking that after I posted,Johnny Giles was in charge for 76-77 season after promotion. The rumour, allegerdly, That Giles wanted to sign Alan Clark, the deal was almost done but Alan wanted an extra signing on fee which wasn't quite within the rules. The board quashed it.
In my opinion Giles would have won a trophy with his team, Big Ron luckiest bloke in football taking over that team.
Ronnie Allen came in between Giles & Atkinson, and HE bought Cyrille for £5k, saying he'd pay for him himself if The Board wouldn't. He also bought Laurie, I think.
Johnny Giles got us promated at Oldham 1976 but you know that talkSAFT.
The game before Oldham was Leyton Orient night match 5000 Baggies were there including myself.
Laurie Cunningham was amazing that night he hit the bar for Orient, if that would ahve gone in we would not have been promoted.
Signed for us 1977 after Giles leftl so it would have been Allen who signed him.
I stiil wonder if Ronnie Allen had not gone to Saudi Arabia, if one of the best teams we have had would have won some titles.
