Evening John...Personally I have never understood this so called hatred. I first started going to the Den in the 1957/8 season and continued up until I left the UK in March ‘ 73 During that period we never played against the Hammers and frankly I never heard anything down the Den about any rivalry between the two clubs. The only incident that I recall was just after when West Ham “won the the World Cup” in ‘66. For a few games at the Den about a dozen or so Hammers would turn up for the game and stood on the main terrace near the bar on the half way line. There was a lot of good humoured banter and I let you guess the reaction of the ‘Wall faithfull when they started to chant “ We won the World Cup “ Then at one match for a reason that I ignore it all kicked off and the the out numbered Hammers didn’t have much choice than to hoof it and to never come back.

Evening Gaz...I had two uncles who were dockers and both were Millwall through and through and even those two never had anything to say bad about the Hammers, so in my opinion this thing about dock strikes in the 1920s that kicked off the rivalry is a load of bollox.
