Most Memorable Opening Day Fixtures In Your Opinion

    1996/97

    WBA 1-2 Barnsley

Oh aye we were good , like wtf good and so it proved , possibly the daftest scoreline reflecting the actual performance I've seen .

    1997/98

    Barnsley 1-2 West Ham

Not the result we wanted but none the less a monumental day in the club's history , scorching day and to see the lads run out in the top flight in front of a full house was tremendous .

    1981/82

    Barnsley 4-0 Shrewsbury Town

22 years to get back to the second tier after the dark years in the 60's and 70's .

Nobody knew what to expect , no need to worry .

81/82 Shrewsbury at home 4-0 and a bullet header from McCarthy, Oakwell bathed in sunshine.
04/05 MK Dons away 1-1 their first game after becoming the Dons from Wimbledon, not a great game but got heatstroke sat in the open end of the National Hockey Stadium so won’t forget it!

Agree that West Ham game takes some beating thinking this is easy when redfearn scored but 2016 Ipswich away first game back in championship and my lad was Barnsley mascot seeing him lead the team out with Connor brought a tear to my eye then we lost 4-2 .

Worst for me was the opening game at Bradford under Spackman when we got battered 4-0 .

You knew right there and then there was big trouble ahead because we were absolutely shyte .

We must have started that chanting cos we all looked like Red Indians after burning in that stand?
Left back was Tom Williams Roma! He weren’t that good but we liked him cos his missus was a cracker!

Barnsley 4-0 Oxford. I knew we'd go up automatic after that performance.
