European Super League Concept - The destruction of conventional football

    https://www.euroclubindex.com

Once again the concept of a break away super league is being discussed by several top club executives to squeeze more money out of the game.

The idea will be based on the top 16-18 clubs from each country forming a European league. The idea will be the death of football for fans as we know it, in my opinion.

I don't see how, as we are on the brink of another global recession a decision to take all the top clubs out of each league would benefit the fan base of each club?

Currently NUFC are ranked a pathetic 75th. Southampton are 66th, Palace are 52nd, West Ham are 50th, Everton are 36th for example. What a travesty our club has become.

There is no chance we would be anywhere near inclusion in a super league; not that I would want us to be. How could any NUFC fan afford to travel to Donetsk or Valencia on a weekend?

TV money is now the life blood of football; it's totally artificial and unrealistic. I absolutely believe that any European Super League would see 30% or more historic English clubs go out of business.

Football once the opiate of the masses has now become a lucrative business of billionaires to wash their money.

A move to a European league would have a devastating affect on football which is more than a sport to many, it's part of our national identity, part of the DNA of each community, in each city in the land.

I'm sure clubs like Celtic and Rangers would love it. However I think it would be a bridge too far, a tipping point that would send football into massive decline.

This isn't even considering the impact on the National team; again not that I really care so much for England.

    What do you guys think?

I think if it happens then the teams that are left will see a massive swing and several go out of business or into administration as the TV cash cow isn't there anymore.

But after that. . . Football might go back to being a sport of the "common" person.

It may see a resurgence of the local clubs.

The FA will be responsible for the bankruptcy of the national sport at the hands of greed.

I don't see a European Super League as progress. The Premier League would dissolve; the football association would lose so much money and power. I could see huge protests as big clubs crumble.

Oh, I didn't mean to say i see it as progress. I was just focusing on the left behind clubs.

Celtic and Rangers may love it as you said but they'll be the whipping boys of that league for example.

For clubs who are so use to winning, how will they take that - not well I suspect.

If it happened, i could see some teams decided they prefered the old prem etc. after a few seasons.

One thing it would mean IF IT did happen is that our club would be much less of value to the ugly obese one as it is in the Premiership as it stands now.

I understand why those in power can see it as a money maker...think they are wrong and things will collapse personally.

I think less people would pay to watch what is essentially an expanded champions league.

We have more interest in the domestic game via history, rivalries etc...Europe is an extra. I enjoy(did enjoy) the chase for a European place, it proves you did well. Playing against other European teams that did well is interesting.

In no way would I care as much if a game against Inter, Ajax, Barca, etc was standard.

I agree. It´s not as if you´d see a better standard of player either as the PL already has most of the best players and coaches in the world. It would kill all of the europen cup competitions - I can´t see the point.
