Well I don't know about others on this site but growing up and with work mates it was give and take in the " taking the piss" out of each other. Nothing sinister about it.

I had one friend who picked up the name " masher" because he always found a way to make a cup of tea instead of working.

He had this dream of joining the RAF and eventually after a few attempts he got in.

He was later killed in a flying accident

There’s a bloke up at stocksbridge British steelworks they call stretch neck because he tried to gang himself. Nothing is sacred. How it should be. I used to work with a bloke that we nicknamed manbat because his real name was wayne Bruce.

Back to this. What is the difference to this and comparing Rooney to Shrek. At least these comparisons are the same colour.

Exactly. I worked in the steel industry for over 40 years and the humour was relentless but I don't recall anyone doing anything other than give some back.
I was going to make a similar observation about Rooney and Shrek but apparently that comparison is ok with the PC brigade as he obviously doesn't fall into the right category for people to be offended by it.

Have you ever given the slightest consideration as to what it might be a minority subjected to light racist abuse in a "joking" manner.

Of course playing along is the only reaction. Can you imagine how people would react if they were asked politely to stop. People then start saying "can't take a joke", as though the person is being unreasonable.

Look at how much you folks are getting upset because someone else has been accused of making an inappropriate joke, you can't even handle somebody else being called out on it.
