To be honest, the Falklands was the best thing that could have happened for her at the time.

She was well behind in the polls and under pressure from within her own party, who thought she would lose the next election.

The Falklands boosted her popularity and gave her an extra few years to screw the country.

At least she didn't take us into a war on a tissue of lies where hundreds of our young men lost their lives. Not like a certain Labour leader did. What was his name? Oh yes, Tony Blair, and he knew that they were lies. Can't get much lower than that.

And you must also clearly not be a supporter of Boris Johnson - considering he voted in favour of action?

For what its worth, he'll forever be remembered for the stain of the Iraq war, and perhaps rightly so...but his domestic record was fantastic.

True, I was born midway through her time as PM.

But I've studied Thatcher enough to know she was what most Tories would consider a good Tory - tax cuts for the rich, squandering money, cutting public services and increasing inequality of wealth within the country.

I'm not sure if you've studied Thatcher enough to know that Tony Blair once said that his job was to build on some of the things that she had put in place and not reverse them. Blair had more in common with Thatcher with his policies than he did with the old left. Blair wasn't slow in that respect to know that Labour as it was under the old Marxist regime that had bankrupted the country only to go cap in hand to the IMF was unelectable and it had to change. Thankfully for Blair, he was up against a hapless John Major as he took New Labour to a landslide. You really ought to look up what Britain was like before Thatcher then you might begin to understand why this country needed some tough medicine. We weren't called the sick man of Europe for nothing.

Lucky that a ragtag conscripted army went into the Falklands, to boost her popularity at a time when she was floundering in the polls and hanging onto her political career by a thread. Lucky that she inherited billions of pounds worth of north sea oil revenue every year, which she pi55ed up the wall by giving tax cuts to the rich. That cash injection helped prop the country up in the 80's against record levels of unemployment and high interest rates. Along with the bog standard lack of public spending you always get under the Tories...

Contrast that with Blair, he trebled the NHS budget in his first term, when he came into power in 1997. introduced the minimum wage, employed thousands more teachers, nurses, police, doctors and fireman. He doubled the education budget. Reduced waiting times at NHS. Lifted thousands of pensioners out of poverty. We had low interest rates and 10 years of continuous economic growth.

He gets vilified now for the Iraq war and maybe he deserves it. But his domestic record was fantastic.

I served in the Falklands,not during the invasion,but a few months later...I was not a conscript,nor was I a ragtag soldier...I will happily meet you anytime,anywhere,and you can say it to my face...if you've got the balls
