    O/T Speed camera in smethwick

Any residents know that speed camera on the dual carriage in smethwick the one that goes on from Toll house?

I was coming the opposite direction to this camera from Birmingham to Smethwick direction and it flashed me. I was doing 45mph and it is 40mph, but I didn't think they worked in the opposite direction as it flashed in front of me.

I've known it do that a few times in the past, it appears to be a glitch. There are no road markings on the carriageway you were on so that would make it invalid anyway. Also those cameras work on the 10 percent plus 2 basis ie 10 percent for 40 being 4 plus 2 enables you to travel at no faster than 46mph before you are fined

Some cameras are tripped when you’re coming towards them a tad fast.

Zero chance of a ticket BB.

That is what I thought, as there are no warning signs that there is camera in force nor any of the road markings like there are on the side of dual carriage way it is actually on.

Not worked for ages (along with most other cameras in the area) As said it's been flashing in the opposite direction for a while plus it can't be used for oncoming traffic anyway. (Doesn't matter if there are road markings or not)

I read in the papers a couple of years back that they didn't work anymore because of financial cutbacks, so why would you leave it flashing unnecessarily wasting money when you're trying to save money?

Surely if it still flashes and functions they should try to get money out of it.

Probably old technology (film camera) Needs someone to keep coming out to change/replace the film. Most modern stuff is digital so it all goes down a wire

Well if it gets you to think about slowing down...then it seems to be working alright...consider yourself fortunate...

To be fair I'm hardly lewis Hamilton, never had a speeding ticket in 30 years of driving.

And if I do avoid a fine I will consider myself fortunate as it only happened because I was overtaking some p rick doing 20mph on a 40mph on a dual carriageway.

You’ll get offered a speeding course for any first offence anyway.
