Hi Paul,

As our much loved Millers reporter, do us a favour matey, and write a piece about the Greasy Chip Butty song and its Rotherham origins - further to the recent BBC documentary.

To Millers of a certain age we've always felt a sense of loss of a classic song that we once proudly sang (mainly at, on our way, to away games). It got well and truly nicked by that lot over the viaduct. And it hurts a lot. How poor old Tony Moran feels I'll never know.

I know you'll do us, our town, and our club justice Paul.

Next time we play at Brammal lane, as the composer of the song we can all conduct whilst they sing. Though I expect we would most likely try to drown it out with "Dee Dar Dee Dar Dee Dar", maybe we could do both.

Huh? Why are they mutually exclusive? This story (which interests many Millers, granted not you) in no way diminishes, denegrates, minimises or downplays the covid-19 pandemic. Why would you imply otherwise?

It could be argued that it provides a bit of much needed light relief from the "end is nigh", "save our souls" 24 hour covid coverage, and the impact the virus is having on us all.

It could also be argued that this RUFC football forum (certainly this thread) is precisely where we should be discussing the Greasy Chip Butty song (and the documentary aired last night), and not the place for talking about the pandemic. 🙄

Listened to the feature on Monday. Thought it was excellent. Credit to Terry for the excellent lyrics, but we lost ownership of this song long ago. Besides I'm sure Terry would agree that as good as his original was it pales into insignificance compared to the perennial favourite and now club classic -"C'mon you reds" (repeat if can be bothered).
