    O/T Train Sets

Anybody been tempted to start putting together your own Hornby train set? Not me yet but I always think it's an elderly hobby rather than a kiddy thing like scalextric

I had one when I was six Phil, a Black 5 loco with three maroon coaches and some goods wagons.
These locos were actually running on the mainline a few hundred yards down the road at the time lol.
I wouldn't bother with one now, they take up too much space, but I do like to see other people's.
What i have got is a train simulator on X Box where you can do real time journeys on real routes in all weathers.
Diesel and electric locos in Britain, Germany and the USA.
Life has never been so much fun since I finished work.

If you're stuck for space look at N gauge (about half the size of 00 Gauge) Some very fine layouts about. With the advent of digital control (DCC) Multiple trains on the same track, it has opened up a whole new world

As a few people know on here I am an absolute railway freak. When I was retired [semi] a couple years ago I was about to take the plunge with a layout but the Covid virus put it on hold. Looking at it again I think Scoop is correct N gauge is the way to go, but the prices, "oy vey"! I just looked on ebay and a just a tiny "Jinty" tank loco was nearly $200 and then there is the shipping cost of course.

Still tempted though, I have plenty of space, just need plenty of cash is all!

My 3 year old grandson Leo is absolutely obsessed with trains.

He’s been a very late developer with his speech and it’s been his love of Thomas The Tank that has brought his speech out.

He has EVERY train and knew every name before he knew many other basic words.

I hope his love continues as I have a now empty bedroom on my top floor into which I’m hoping to build him a massive Hornby set over the years.

No doubt he’ll discover Play Station soon though 😫😤

Hornby actually do a Thomas set Mick, get him started young on something he can relate too, if you have the space you can build some amazing layouts. Check this out like a trip back in time!

A neighbour of mine has an N gauge model railway; he finished it about two years ago after five years work. It is an amazing piece of modelling and the attention to detail almost defies belief. If I had a loft in which I could stand up straight, I may have been tempted to build a railway myself, but I don’t!

We live in the country in a mobile home so space is limited.
This is why i play on Rail simulator on X Box.
I have driven a P43 HST from Paddington to Reading, these trains finished on the Plymouth to Paddington run last year.
I have also driven stopping trains and freight along the route.
All the routes are authentic and in real time.
All weather's and scenarios. There is also a retro set in northern England in the seventies with class 45 and 37 locos. These are more difficult as they have gear change.
