Interesting whilst a Wo1ve5 supporter as a youth he used to come and watch us, hopefully some of the true DNA of the club will have sunk in to the extent that the football we play is positive, time will tell.
That’s the way it was ‘in the old days’ before saturation of football on tv. We used to go to the match at The Hawthorns every Saturday and most midweeks.
When we weren’t playing at home on a Saturday (no car) we went to Villa Park to watch the match there as we could get there direct by train. That said we never went to Molineaux as a neutral as would never have considered doing so!
We attended so many Villa games we went to every semi final at Villa Park in the mid to late 60s as we qualified to do so based upon the number of vouchers we saved from their match day programmes.
I used to quite enjoy the games at Villa Park as a neutral because you were not bothered either way who won and you appreciated the game more. I think that is why (born 1951) I have no hatred of Villa to this day.
As a kid I could not follow Albion away very often as pocket money would not run to it but me and my mates would sometimes go down Villa Park if Albion were away but we always stood with the away supporters and desperately wanted whoever it was to win. I have stood and cheered with Blues fans, Tottenham, Millwall, Bolton to name a few. Hence there are only three things I can say I actually hate and as a Christian I should not hate at all. But, we are all fallible so I absolutely hate and detest anything to do with the Vile so much that it borders on a psychological disorder. The other things I hate are bullies and cruelty involving animals.
This sort of thing cannot have been unusual. I remember Dad telling me that he when he was young he would watch Albion one week and Villa the next. At some point he decided to make his allegiance solely to Albion. I could not really understand this as I my feelings ran very strongly about the Villa.

Most of my mates were Wolves, they still are. If the Albion were away and i wasn't going i used to go down the Molineux with them. I have been to Villa, Blues and Walsall on such day's and even went to Coventry the once. I loved going to a game on Saturday, sadly my enthusiasm for the game is not what it was, technology and playing not to lose instead of playing to win has taken away the thrill. It used to be about wingers and centre forwards, now it's about cancelling out each others midfield.
I can't understand the small mindedness of some fan's regarding who a player or manager supports.
If I had been lucky enough to be a pro footballer and Wolves had taken me on, I would have given 100% every game including against the Albion, maybe even more against them, even though Albion were my boyhood team.
It's called being a professional.
At the end of the day it's a profession for them so who they support shouldn't come in to it.
I have a friend who works at the Albion. Apparently the club has had a very large number of very abusive and I mean VERY ABUSIVE emails about this appointment. I heard a few examples and it really makes you wonder about what goes on with some people.
I agree with the majority of comments on here about Bilic and liked the chap but crap owners aside, we are where we are which was heading down. If Sam keeps us up so be it. Who he supports is neither here nor there as its all about results and bonuses for him which it should be.
I still can't believe with the disaster that has been 2020, people are putting the importance on this that they are and emailing threats and abuse the way they have. Whatever happened to a sense of perspective eh?
Up until age eleven when we left the area I would watch Albion one week and Albion reserves the following week.
Played for the local school in the morning. (Grove Lane)
