Anybody in here do it?
I need to start but I’m clueless on what kit to buy and the right regime to use?
You wouldn’t think I worked in the sports trade would you? 🙄
Any advice appreciated.

Yes, but in a gym, 3 times a week. Try to do some power lifting exercises of different kinds, some bench press, dead lift etc. And of course, all the bl**ding rehab exercises that I sadly need...
Also run but not as often any more, maybe once or twice a week, 9-13 km.
And, futsal once a week, normally, not now due to restrictions though.
Futsal is great game for developing skills particuarly for kids. So much better than 5 a side were the ball spends so much time bouncing around of walls. Like so many things we English were so slow to take it up. Brazil were playing it 80 years ago. I first saw it in Spain in the 1980's. Only been in England for around 20 years.
Stick to track work Mick.
Have you seen some of those Russian women? - Terry McCann
You are better doing more bench presses or lift's with lighter weights than one power lift with an heavy one.
I used to go to the Wrens Nest gym in the eighties, but haven't bothered since then apart from a day with my wife in the Gym in the hotel at Castle Gate.
I only want to do fairly light weights Des.
I have quite weak wrists.......
Something of a surprise to be honest with you 👀😲
I did lots in my 20's Mick and found that the best results came from compound sets where you use lighter weights doing different sets back to back which target the same area - example, bench press followed by dumbbell fly from the bench position. Not sure if you still run these days but a mixture of cardio and weights are your best bet pal.
Push ups, squats, chin ups would be where I personally would start (considering gyms are all closed) assuming you keep up cardio conditioning work.
As a regular gym goer apart from the last year, i’d always advise people to look after their core. The gut carries so many issues and if you can look after your core via eating well, you’ll notice your strength (weight) training improve incredibly. So many people dismiss this and fail on so many fronts. 3 years ago I had a good core and was lean built with muscle (not huge) and this over the years improved my boxing training. My upper body strength was on another level.
I would also do pilates, you won’t believe the strength you’ll gain from that, especially for the core. Eat well, eat clean (by that I mean cooking things from scratch).
The last year, covid restrictions have given me a dad bod not my 2 month old daughter. I’m by my standards in terrible state and I for one can’t wait for things to reopen.
Anyway I’m about to head out for some fried chicken and chips. Enjoy your evening.
p.s eat loads of broccoli 🥦
Buy a set of dumbbells ..... up to 12 kg pairs will do. Plus a bench. That will start you off. Keep the weights light to start with
Be careful with the back though. Last Jan (20) I went into a fitness regime with a personal trainer ..... ended up with a slipped disc .... almost lost the feeling in my left leg permanently .... had to have spine surgery in April in middle of COVID .... and I have always done weights ...
I did a lot when i was younger and started again at 46 i just missed out on my goal of a 180 kg bench for my 52nd birthday but did a 172kg so pleased with that your never to old to start
