    The Baggie Barge

I’m prompted to mention the barge following receipt of the attached photo and then reference to a Wives thread.

Fond memories of meeting up with 20 + from this forum at Gas St. Basin and travelling up the canal to disembark, having had a few beers to watch the match...and then rush back, post match to catch the barge back. A few stayed over in Brum I seem to think?

Recollections of BaggieboyGeoff and others rushing up the towpath as the barge skipper wouldn’t wait for him and previously the barge getting stuck in the mud...pre match in the middle of the canal...panic stations.

I remember going on at least a couple of these barge events wherein we (this board) filled the narrowboat entirely. (e.g vs Liverpool ... we lost) ‘She who must be obeyed’ joined me on this occasion and had a great time.

Coseley Baggie Bird was the hostess with the snacks and BBG provided the raffle with prizes donated by generous posters (Turkey donated by Ardbaggie and won by me) and the WBA shop. There was a Wolves shirt as a booby prize.

Journeying through the Brindley Place singing Psalm 23 and SOTV

    Happy days !

Good memories of those trips, the barge bar stocked Bathams beer, I seem to recall that by the time we were back in Brum on one trip we had drunk it all! On another trip, the gearbox broke on the barge and we had to be towed ther and back by another boat, it was so slow, we were overtaken by a woman on the towpath pushing a pram. Back then, I believe that the barge was subsided by the club, I can’t see Lai coughing up for that! Anyway, when all is opened up again and back to normal, it would be good to have a get together before a match for a few beers. I think that I could even get Geoff to come along.....

Went on the barge a few times. Can still remember it rocking from side to with The Liquidator blaring away as we headed towards the Shrine. Good days.
