Is Allardyce the man to secure promotion next season ?

Whilst he would not have been one of my preferred candidates, I actually hope he stays and gets the opportunity.
In most cases I’m in the ‘devil you know’ camp, and indeed would have stuck with Slaven.

Are there any substantially better options available I wonder ?

Didn’t really want him Prando but think he’s our best option! Attracts good players - stands no crap from players and if backed will get us back up at the first attempt.

Bilic was well liked and that was the downfall ie staying loyal to championship players rather than being ruthless and getting rid! Fat Sam has shown this ruthless streak with Pereira and Gallagher both on the bench and not selecting players who don’t toe the line! That’s how a manager should be - fair but ruthless!

    100% yes.

I like him as a character as well and I think he’s a great judge of a player and a player’s character.

Yes, he's produced a competitive team in the Prem albeit too late.

If we can keep Yoksulu and Diagne, buy or loan Gallagher again and add a Gayle type goal scorer I think we’ll walk promotion next season.

When a new manager comes along he has to win the fans over. I made it clear he was yesterdays mon and was not for me. Eddie Howe all day long but he he wont come no further than a London club, probably Palace. He was too homesick at Burnley. So he would never come here.

Any road, he has recently convinced me with some very impressive performances that has now me rethink that he would defo do a job for us next season if could be persuaded to stay or if he wants to stay. But personally i think the board employed him as a Red Adair and looks to have failed in his mission and as such I think the board will be looking for someone a bit cheaper come the Championship with several sh1ite names already in the frame.

Worries me who Dowling is friends with - Appleton etc! Not difficult really - Sam is motivated by money so load the promotion bonus very high as an incentive and he will get us up!

I hope he stays because I think this close season will see potentially the biggest shift out and in of players we have seen for a long time and we need someone who is skilled at wheeling and dealing and who is a great judge of a player. I can’t think of anyone else who is better qualified the question is though does Sam want to do it and will Lai back him.

    Goalkeepers
Probably Johnstone will go if nothing else to help finance players coming in
Lonergan can go, indeed why is he here?

    Defenders
    Gibbs off to America
Ivanovic, too old and due to retire
Peltier, at best journeyman although I suppose he may stay
Kipre, surely not good enough even for the top of the Championship

    Midfield
    Phillips, will he go?
    Livermore, who would take him?
    Grosicki, on his way somewhere
Gallagher, too good for the Championship
    Sawyers, who would take him?
Field, doesn’t want to come back
Mainland-Niles, too good for the Championship
Yokuslu, definitely too good for the Championship
Pereira, will we be able to keep him?

    Forwards
Robson-Kanu, can’t see him getting a contract extension
    Zohore, please someone take him
    Austin, please someone take him
    Diagne, still not sure

Yes, whoever is the boss in the summer has got an awful lot to do and this is not a role for an inexperienced Manager, or one without a track record of getting players in.

I am sure this squad would will the Championship but I reserve judgement though on whether we will come straight back or not once the deals have been completed. If they aren’t with that amount of changes you could see us going straight through the Championship unless the Manager gets the financial support needed.

Good summary. Massive job this summer. Would definitely keep Big Sam. Just a question of money. Will he be given a big enough budget? Will he be given a large bonus incentive? If the answer to both questions is YES, we will go straight back up next season.
