    Chris Brunt officially retires.

Brunty announced today that he is officially 'hanging up his boots'. What a great servant he has been to us. Played wherever he was asked to without complaint, making a record number of Premiership appearances in the process. Hopefully, he will be part of our Youth Academy system for the foreseeable future as there can be no better role model for any aspiring young footballer. Thanks for all the memories and good luck for the future.

Our best left footed player since Willie Johnston.

Our best crosser of a ball since Willie Johnston.

Our most under appreciated player since Ally Brown.

One of our top 6 players since the halcyon days of the late 70’s.

If you were picking our best side of the last 40 years he’d be in it.

Thank you Brunty, you and Zoltan and G Mac are my favourite players of this century.

Great servant of the club, best of luck in the future.

Nowhere near ”best side last 40 years” for me though.

Think we had a better left foot (no other comparisons) in the team this season, Pereira.

Just watched his goal compilation on the official site. He scored some real crackers. All of the very best for the future Brunty 😎 .

Different player types are good in different ways. Pereira's a magician with the ball but he could have done with Brunty's wand a few times when delivering corners.

Possibly so, but I also remember quite a few Brunt corners never beating the first defender or post. And Pereira’s lethal corners going for goal directly, the cross bar saved some keepers. And, he succeeded vs Hammers, although it went down as an og. That’s a wand of a left foot for me too, as Brunt too, of course.

You're spot on there '68. On too many occasions his dead ball deliveries were poor. Yes, he could produce an absolute 'worldy' but was too inconsistent. When he was on his game though, he was excellent.

With the greatest of respect, absolute b o ll ox.

    Completely different type of player.

When did you see Perreira playing wide left and swinging in crosses with a wand of a left foot?

About as often as you saw Brunt playing just behind the striker/s and dazzling opposition with his footwork and intricate passing.

Gera right side of our best midfield with Brunt ( in his pomp ) on the left side.

You might as well have compared Mulumbu with Perreira!

Talking of which, Mulumbu gets in as best holding midfielder of this century.

One place left if your playing a four man midfield in which to put Perreira, maybe he gets that spot, maybe he doesn’t.

At his best Morrison was a very good player for a long period of time so he’d get the final spot for me with Perreira playing behind Lukaku if we count loan players and Odemwingie if it has to be a player we owned.

Def, as I wrote (”no other comparison”), two totally different types of players. Read again please if you missed it.

But, I was only thinking about left foot deliveries, WHEN delivered (Pereira should not play on the wing swinging in crosses). And, that is of course too statistically impossible to compare, given how few games Pereira has played for us, and how many Brunt has played (as anyone would understand).

And looking at Pereira’s lethal corners going directly for goal this season (success vs Hammers although went down as an og), the absolute peach of a free kick vs Everton away etc, etc, I stand by what I wrote.
